Weekend Recap - Celebrating (a little too much) not having to do a long half-marathon training run

Yesterday was so crazy with the launch of my redesigned blog (!) and the launch of the May Plank Challenge, that I didn't post my usual weekend recap. I wanted to share some things from the weekend because the BF and I celebrated not having to do a long half-marathon training run with an amazing lunch (and a biking adventure).

Friday, May

After work, I headed to Yanney Heritage Park with my dad and niece, Brynn, to shoot some photos for my blog redesign and the May Plank Challenge. Brynn served as creative director of the shoot giving me ideas for poses and making sure that we photographed all the plank variations. I'm lucky that one of my dad's hobbies is photography and that my niece is creative and organized! It was a lot of fun shooting the photos. It felt very professional (even though an 8-year old was the creative director).

After we finished the photos, I had dinner with my parents and Brynn. We had Mexican food at El Portrero. I had my usual - chicken fajitas with corn tortillas.

We spent the rest of the evening cuddling and giggling. There isn't anything I would have rather been doing on a Friday night. We have so much fun together!

Saturday, May 10

For breakfast, I had oats with chia seeds, almond milk, cinnamon, goji berries, blueberries and chunky almond butter. I also had coffee and an apple cider vinegar drink.

I subbed two classes at my gym in the morning - Chizzel, a cardio and toning class, and Core and More, an abs toning class. Then I made a trip to Hy-Vee to buy my mom's Mother's Day gift (a hanging flower pot) and some items for lunch with the BF.

After delivering my mom's gift and Mother's Day card, I headed to Hastings to spend the rest of the weekend with the BF.

This was the first Saturday the BF and I haven''t had to do a long half-marathon training run. The Lincoln Half-Marathon was last weekend, so we decided to take a break from the long runs. To celebrate our first long run-free Saturday, we had lunch on the patio. The weather was sooooo incredible! We had a mixed green salad with carrots, purple cabbage, sunflower seeds, dried cranberries and Trader Joe's Cranberry Walnut and Gorgonzola Dressing. We also had bruschetta with white bean basil hummus, fresh mozzarella and roma tomatoes and watermelon. Everything was delicious!

The BF and I prefer red wine, but we decided we should try some whites this summer. White wine seems more like a summer drink. So we enjoyed some white wine with our lunch. Hey, it was a no running day!

Later in the afternoon, we hopped on our bikes and rode to see our friends, Carmen and Clark. About a block from the house, I lost my flip flop and scraped my shin on my pedal. It was my first ride of the season and, apparently, I needed to re-learn how to ride my bike. I now have a lovely gash and a line of bruises on my leg.

We hung out in Carmen and Clark's beautiful backyard (Carmen owns a landscaping business) for a couple of hours before all four of us rode our bikes downtown for dinner. We were an adorable little bike gang - Carmen, Clark and I all have bells on our bikes and rang them over and over again during our ride.

We went to Murphy's Bar and I had a grilled chicken wrap and fries for dinner. Not the healthiest choice, but after a few beers at Carmen and Clark's I needed some food! Our last stop on our biking adventure was WineStyles for margaritas. Probably not necessary, but fun.

Sunday, May 11

I woke up early with a hangover (and remembered why I usually don't drink much), took some pain reliever and went back to bed. When I woke up a few hours later, I felt a hundred times better. I rehydrated with some Gatorade over ice, an apple cider vinegar drink and water. Then had an egg and turkey bacon sandwich and coffee.

Early in the afternoon, the BF and I met up with our friend Russanne at the nail salon for pedicures! I got pink sparkles because I thought it looked springy.

Russanne gave me an amazing belated birthday gift - an As Seen on TV GoGo Pillow! It's so perfect for reading books and magazines on my Kindle Fire, and it's leopard print!

For lunch, we had greasy bar food at the Bullseye. I had a grilled chicken sandwich and some fries. Yes, fries again! Alcohol is not good for the diet. I didn't feel hungover by lunchtime, but I was tired and craving comfort food.

We spent the afternoon relaxing before stopping by the BF's dad and step mom's house to deliver a Mother's Day gift.

The BF made buffalo chicken pizza for dinner, and we enjoyed some ice cream while we watched Philomena. It was such an incredible movie! It was definitely one of my favorites of the Oscar winners and nominees.

What a weekend! I definitely can't handle drinking more than a couple of drinks. I hate being hungover and I hate feeling like I want to lay around all day and eat all the gross food the day after indulging in booze. But we did have a lot of fun!

Luckily, it's a new week and a new day and I can make healthier choices!
