What I Eat in a Day {DietBet Day 1}

Yesterday was the first day of the Sweet Success Summer DietBet! (You can still sign up! Do it now!)

I'm excited about this challenge because it's such a great way to get motivated to eat healthy and workout a bit harder for summer. It's always nice to go into summer feeling confident and healthy!

Even though it's called a DietBet, I'm definitely not going on a diet. I don't diet...ever. But life has it's ups and downs and sometimes I'm eating healthier and working out more than other times. My weight hasn't fluctuated more than 5 pounds over the past two years or so, but when my weight creeps to the higher end of that 5 pounds I can definitely tell. My clothes feel a bit more snug and I don't feel as comfortable.

If you're thinking, "It's only 5 pounds?!?!," keep in mind that 5 pounds or even 10 pounds is different on everyone. I'm just over 5'5" and I can tell when I've gained a couple of pounds. For someone who is taller, they may be able to gain 5 or 10 pounds and it may not be noticeable. Also remember that when I gain 5 pounds I'm the only one who notices, but I want to feel my best!

So anyway, I'm at the top of that 5 pounds right now. I always gain weight after I finish the Lincoln Half-Marathon. I think my body gets confused because I'm not running all of the time and not running long distances on the weekends anymore. So I'm doing the DietBet to lose a few pounds to feel good in my swimsuit this summer and feel fab at my cousin's wedding in Atlanta in July!

I haven't shared a day of eating for awhile, so I thought I'd share the first day of the DietBet. It's actually pretty similar to every other day, but if I wasn't trying to lose weight I might have a bowl of ice cream or something sweet after dinner (and maybe lunch too).

Breakfast: 1/2 cup dry oats, 1 tbsp. chia seeds, 1 tbsp. goji berries, 1/2 cup unsweetened almond milk, 1 tsp. honey and 1 tbsp. almond butter + coffee + apple cider vinegar drink

Snack: plain Greek yogurt sweetened with stevia and topped with blueberries

Lunch: mango chicken with brown rice from a Thai restaurant (I had a work lunch meeting, so no pic)

Snack: a handful of mixed nuts + Harvest Snaps Snapea Crisps

Workout: 3 mile run + total body toning workout

Dinner: quinoa and chickpea tabbouleh with feta

Dessert: fresh made juice with cucumber, orange and mint

According to MyFitnessPal, I ate 1,778 calories and burned 548 calories. According to my FitBit, I took 8,333 steps, which isn't that great considering I ran 3 miles.

Overall, I felt good all day. I was never starving and all of my meals and snacks were satisfying. Sometimes it can be hard to eat healthy when going out to eat, but I was glad my lunch meeting was at a Thai restaurant because I always order the same thing!
