How I plan to stay healthy during my trip to Georgia

Staying healthy while traveling is hard! Airports don't usually have tons of healthy options. You have to eat out for nearly every meal. When you go-go-go, you are exhausted and crave carbs. And you give yourself an excuse to eat all the food because you're on vacation!

I do believe it's possible to have a healthy vacation. But it takes planning!

I'm heading to Georgia this week for an 11-day adventure - FitBloggin Conference in Savannah + vacation time + being a bridesmaid in my cousin's wedding in Atlanta. I want to feel fit, healthy and full of energy during this trip, so I'm planning ahead to make sure this trip is a healthy one.

Here's my stay healthy plan:

  • Start each day off right. FitBloggin is on top of things and listed every meal they will be serving on their website. Woo hoo! It will be easy to make healthy choices for breakfast each day of the conference with their oatmeal bar, scrambled eggs, egg white frittatas with asparagus and more! However, my hotel in Atlanta doesn't have a continental breakfast. The BF and I will stop by a grocery store to pick up fresh fruit, plain instant oatmeal, nut butter and other healthy breakfast items. This will help us save money and have a healthy start to each day!

  • Plan workouts ahead of time. Since FitBloggin is a conference for healthy lifestyle bloggers, there will be scheduled workouts! I'm planning on participating in bootcamp, yoga and going for a run in Savannah. For the Atlanta leg of my trip, I've already planned workouts and active activities. I used GoRecess to sign up for a barre class, which I've never taken before! The BF and I will be spending a day hiking. My cousin and I will try to make it to her CrossFit box for a workout. I plan to take in the sights by going for a run on the Atlanta BeltLine. And our hotel has free bike rentals, so the BF and I will definitely go on a bike ride or two.

  • Make smart choices when eating out. This is the hardest part of my plan! Eating is one of my favorite things about traveling. I try to make healthy choices most of the time, but indulge in foods that are special to the area I'm in. Luckily, the FitBloggin meals will be healthy and I'm spending a few days at my cousin's apartment so we can make a couple of homemade meals. But there will definitely be some restaurant meals!
  • Drink lots of water. I tend to get dehydrated when I travel because I have to constantly buy water bottles. I'm packing an empty water bottle this time and refilling it every chance I get! Staying hydrated will make choosing healthy meals easier because I won't be mistaking thirst for hunger.

  • Don't stress about a few pounds gained. Although this is a blog trip/wedding trip, this is also a bit of a vacation and I plan to have fun! Being away from my normal routine and eating habits for 11 days will be tough, and I will probably put on a couple of pounds. I'm not going to beat myself up about it, and I'll just get back on track when I get home.

  • Pack a few healthy snacks. When I travel, I generally bring lots of healthy snacks with me. But since I have to pack so much for this long trip, my luggage space is limited. I picked up a few things at Target this week - individual packs of mixed nuts, Larabars, Justin's almond butter and new Larabar grain-free granola. This will be plenty to satisfy airport hunger, snacking during my drive to and from Savannah, etc.
