FitBloggin Recap - Days 1-2

The few days I spent at FitBloggin last week were a whirlwind! I met so many inspiring and wonderful people, learned tons about blogging, and left with lots of ideas. I'm excited to make my blog better, and make it a fab place for you to come for health motivation and information.

So here's what happened the first two days at FitBloggin, a conference for health and fitness bloggers....

Day 1

I landed in Atlanta Thursday afternoon and had to rent a car to drive to Savannah. This is the part of the trip that gave me the most anxiety. I was super nervous about driving through Atlanta. My anxiety got worse when I pulled away from the airport and it started to downpour like crazy!

But I made it to Savannah in one piece and only made a few wrong turns before finding my hotel.

After checking into the Hyatt and a quick change, I went to the first FitBlogging event - the Welcome Mixer. There, I met my roommate Christina Russell from Body Rebooted! We met on Twitter and decided to room together. I also met Brianna Engebretson of Diva and the Divine and Markita Staples of Swesh Fit.

After a bunch of fun ice breakers, our new little group headed out to find some dinner. We ate at Molly MacPherson's, and I had a veggie burger without a bun, sweet potato fries and a Newcastle. 

During dinner, Brooke: Not On A Diet joined us! You may remember her - she was supposed to be featured on Shape.com for her before and after story, but Shape asked her to resubmit her after photo with a shirt on because the photo she sent showed her excess skin. She's lost over 170 pounds!!! She refused to put on a shirt and blogged about it. Her blog went viral, and she's become well-known in the blogosphere. She'll be featured in Shape magazine later this year!!

After walking around downtown Savannah for a bit, we headed back to the hotel and called it a night. I was exhausted from my day of travel!

Day 2 

I woke up early for a 6 a.m. Bootcamp class! Erin Kreitz Shirey from Dig Deep PLAY Hard led the Bootcamp at a park near our hotel. It was a tough workout, and it was hot and humid out there! We did lots of fun fitness games, running, planks and more.

Because I was a sweaty mess, I showered and missed breakfast so I ate a Quest bar (a conference sponsor) and rushed to my first session. I was a FitBloggin LiveBlogger at the first session!

After three morning sessions, we had lunch with Run Disney. They told us all about their fitness programming and Run Disney opportunities. Running a Disney race sounds like a lot of fun!

In the afternoon, Christina and I checked out some of the booths at the conference - my faves were Health Warrior Chia Bars, Ninja and California Almonds! So many delicious snacks! I'll tell you about more sponsors tomorrow!

After two afternoon sessions, I met up with a group of MidWest bloggers! We went to the Olde Pink House and I had Pan Seared Jumbo Lump Crab and Fried Green Tomatoes. 

I also had a Little Hummingbird Cocktail, which was champagne, elderflower liqueur and club soda and some corn bread.

Everything was magical. It was also great to meet bloggers that live near me! I met Erin Fairchild of Girl Gone Veggie, who lives in Omaha!

After happy hour, it was time for Ignite Fitness, an event that allows conference goers to do 5 minute presentations. They were inspiring, motivating, funny and a lot of fun. Some of my faves were by Mission Meltdown, Allie Burdick of Vita Train 4 Life and Sarah Bramblette of Born2lbFat.

That number is the number of pounds lost by attendees at the conference! Awesome!

The event was right on the River Front, so I took some selfies and pretty pics. 

Christina, Brianna and I walked along the River Front, found a candy store with homemade pralines and salt water taffy and a giant ice cream cone, then went in search of real food. 

Christina is intolerant to gluten and dairy, so it was tough to find a good restaurant. We ended up back at the hotel - I had an arugula salad with raspberries, goat cheese and lemon vinaigrette. But I wished I would have bought a praline at the candy store!!!
