Grocery Haul + Weekly Meal Plan {the first living with the BF!}

Posted August 5, 2014 in meal planning, grocery haul, shopping, groceries, relationships, Sunday prep, healthy eating, healthy cooking, healthy living

The BF and I did our first major grocery shopping trip together over the weekend! We've been living together for a few weeks, but have just picked up a few groceries here and there.

We decided to do a whole meal plan and big grocery trip so that we're a bit more prepared and organized for meals.

Here's what we bought...

Produce

Bananas, blueberries, watermelon, lemons, lime, vine ripened tomatoes, Organic frozen raspberries, brussels sprouts, garlic cloves, green bell peppers, red bell peppers, yellow squash, zucchini, basil plant, portobello mushrooms, organic mixed greens

Grains

Whole grain bread, English muffins, whole wheat tortillas, Panko bread crumbs, multi-grain tortilla chips

Dairy

Unsalted butter, fresh mozzarella, shredded mozzarella, shredded cheddar

Canned goods

Black beans, refried black beans, coconut milk

Healthy stuff

Bragg's Apple Cider Vinegar, almond butter, goji berries, organic apple juice

Protein

Turkey breakfast sausage, boneless chicken breast, rotisserie chicken

Snacks

Dark chocolate chips, Salt and Vinegar chips, Parmesan and Garlic chips, Peanut Butter Crisp Cereal, ice cream

Booze

Champagne, vodka

This shopping trip was definitely different from my solo grocery shopping trips (I usually steer clear of chips and sugary cereal), but the BF likes to have a couple snacks around. I admit, I have actually been dipping into his snack supply. Not everyday! But I've probably eaten more cereal in the past few weeks than I have in the past six months!

I created a meal plan before we bought groceries. We will eat all of the dinners together, but the BF and I don't always eat the same breakfasts and lunches (he doesn't share my love for morning oats). And most of the snacks I have planned are things I will eat/drink. The BF doesn't snack as much as I do.

Our first couple of weeks living together were slightly...challenging on the meal planning/cooking front. I'll elaborate more in a future post, but it took a couple of weeks for us to transition into creating meals as a couple and figuring out how to find some balance between my semi-vegetarian eating habits and the BF's daily meat-eating.

I do feel really lucky because the BF will try anything, and we eat healthy together the majority of the time. (However, we can always convince one another to go out for fro yo!).

Here is our meal plan for this week..

Breakfasts

Breakfast burritos (turkey breakfast sausage, egg, red and green peppers, onion and cheese)

Strawberry Rhubarb Scones (I'll share the recipe this week)

Avocado Toast with Harissa and Eggs

Oats with chia seeds, cinnamon, honey, goji berries, raspberries, blueberries and almond butter (just me!)

Lunches

Super Food Detox Salad

Quinoa Patties with Harissa and Egg

Salads

Leftovers

Caprese Quinoa Bake

Dinners

Turkey burgers with pesto, fresh mozzarella, tomato and greens

Mexican lasagna

Portobello paninis with sundried tomatoes and feta + roasted Brussels sprouts

Chicken tacos + guacamole and tortilla chips

Black bean burgers

Snacks/Desserts

Detox Avocado Smoothie

Pre-Bikini Tea

Watermelon Paradise Smoothie

Coffee Smoothie (frozen banana, cold coffee, almond milk, chocolate protein powder)

Chia pudding

grapes

watermelon

flavored water

champagne cocktails! (just me : )

I had a plan to do some Sunday prep, but the BF and I spent the entire day cleaning his old house and we didn't get home until late Sunday evening. So I'll make one or two things each night this week. Monday night I made some flavored water. I took some fresh mint from the BF's old house and my dad gave me some cucumbers, so I made some delicious detox/spa water!
