What I eat in snack emergencies

I don't know how many times I've been sitting at my desk at work, running errands or spending a day shopping and then suddenly...I NEED food! Not a meal, just a little something to give me an energy boost until my next meal.

I've been known to keep a healthy supply of purse snacks with me at all times. You know, purse nuts, purse bars, maybe even the occasional purse banana.

One of my fave on-the-go snacks are KIND bars. So I was beyond thrilled when Hy-Vee offered to let me try some flavors (FYI: I'm starting a new partnership with the Kearney Hy-Vee to review products that you may like!!). 

Before I get into the flavors I tested, let's talk about the number of KIND bar flavors out there.

My local Hy-Vee has 20 different kinds of KIND Bars! (And BTW, they've been on sale almost every time I've been to Hy-Vee!) I've always loved the Peanut Butter + Dark Chocolate Protein, Almond and Coconut and Blueberry Pecan + Fiber. Soooo good! 

Second, I want to talk about why I love KIND bars.

  1. They are made with just a few ingredients - usually just nuts, dried fruit, fruit juice, spices, dark chocolate and sometimes crisp rice.
  2. They taste like food. Some protein bars or snack bars taste like candy bars because they are made with tons of artificial ingredients. KIND bars taste like nuts, dried fruit, etc. 
  3. They keep me satisfied. Because they are a good mix of protein (nuts/seeds) and carbs (dried fruit, honey), they are perfect for an afternoon snack to get me through the rest of the workday or for when I'm out and about and need something to tie me over until my next meal.
  4. They're sweet! I may have mentioned this before, but I have a sweet tooth. I'm always looking for healthier foods that will satisfy my sweet tooth. Hello Dark Chocolate Mocha Almond!

The Kearney Hy-Vee gave me some flavors I've never tried before...

  • Madagascar Vanilla Almond - I LOVED this one! I'm a sucker for anything flavored with vanilla. The vanilla in this bar tastes so fresh and delicious. 
  • Cashew & Ginger Spice - I'm a big fan of ginger...and cashews. This one did not disappoint. I loved the subtle spiciness of the ginger. And cashews taste super indulgent and sweet. 
  • Almond & Apricot - This isn't a flavor I would typically buy on my own, but I was glad that I received this one because I really like it! It was super sweet (it's sweetened with honey and apricots) and had a bit of coconut, which I love!
  • Almond Walnut Macadamia + Protein - Yum, yum, yum! This one actually has peanuts, Brazil nuts and cashews in addition to the almonds, walnuts and macadamias. This flavor has 10 grams of protein so it's perfect for a post-workout snack. It's sweetened with honey so that's great for replenishing your carbs.

KIND also recently came out with a line of savory bars - Roasted Jalapeno, Honey Mustard, Honey Smoked BBQ, Hickory Smoked and Thai Sweet Chili. I haven't seen them yet, but I'm looking forward to trying them!

I'm also going to look for the Caramel Almond Sea Salt and Peanut Butter and Strawberry flavors, which I haven't tried yet.
