Healthy (store-bought) After School Snacks

Can you believe the school year has already started? My niece started third grade last week! Why does the summer always fly by?

Luckily, she was excited for the school year to begin. She thought the summer was too long! But she LOVES school. She comes home from school and plays school.

Although I don't have kids, now that the school year is here I've been thinking about quick and easy ways for parents to get their kids to eat healthy. I know my niece will sometimes reach for an ice cream bar or candy when she wants a snack. But I want her to be healthy, full of energy and self-confident!

From watching my brother and sister-in-law, I know that life can get crazy as a parent and packaged foods or fast foods are often the easiest. But there are healthier options out there (that don't cost a ton)!

I do think some fresh fruit or vegetables, nuts or seeds, Greek yogurt or a smoothie are the best after school snacks, but sometimes life is chaotic and you need to grab something out of the cupboard or fridge. That's why I came up with this list of healthier packaged food that will keep your kiddos energized and satisfied until dinner.

Annie's Organic Fruit Snacks - These are a great alternative to fruit snacks that contain high fructose corn syrup, and they're delicious! I've bought them for Brynn before and I tried them.

Pirate's Booty Aged White Cheddar Corn Puffs - This is a great alternative to Cheetos or other chips. They are really yummy and your kids won't know it's a healthy alternative.

Peter Rabbit Organics 100% Pure Fruit Snacks - I've bought these fruit squeeze packs for my niece a few times, and she loves them. They're basically like applesauce with some other fruits (or vegetables) added in. I think kids like them because they get to squeeze them into their mouth. It's more fun.

Calbee Harvest Snaps Snapea Crisps - Not only does my niece love these, but I love them! They are sooooooo good. You must buy these.

Clif Kid Organic Z Bars - This is another product I have bought for my niece. I like to buy her snacks, apparently! (I keep them at my parent's house because she spends a lot of time there). Clif has lots of delicious flavors (I've tried them even though they're for kids!), and they're organic and made with few ingredients.

Blue Diamond Almonds 100-Calorie Packs - Almonds are an easy and healthy snack. Brynn likes the lightly salted almonds.

KIND Healthy Grains Clusters Vanilla and Blueberry with Flaxseeds - A small serving of granola over yogurt or with a bit of milk is a great after school snack. You will end up eating this granola also!

Greens Drink - This berry-flavored greens drink is perfect for kids. They're getting tons of nutrition with the organic grasses and mushrooms this drink contains, but they won't know it by the sweet flavor. (If they're weirded out about drinking something green, you can call it Hulk juice.)
