Grocery Haul + Weekly Meal Plan {creating a grocery budget)

My last grocery haul was the first one with the BF!

Now that the BF and I have lived together for about two months, we've decided to get more organized with our finances/budgeting.

Neither of us have ever had a budget for food before, but money has been a little tighter for both of us since we moved in together. So we're tracking our spending (especially on groceries and eating out) in September, and in October we'll decide where we can tighten things up. I'll let you know how we do!

Over the weekend, we bought groceries at Hy-Vee, the farmer's market and Target.

Here's what we bought...

Produce - organic spring mix, organic kale, zucchini, red cabbage, green peppers, red pepper, jalapeños, onions, avocado, bananas, eggplant, organic apples, organic plums, sweet potato, raspberries, strawberries and frozen edamame, beets, butternut squash, yellow squash, green beans, red potatoes

Grains - oats, whole wheat bread

Canned goods/pantry items - black beans, refried black beans, chickpeas, vegetable stock, panko bread crumbs, pure maple syrup, flour, dark chocolate chips, raw cashews, goji berries, raw almond butter, chia seeds, natural peanut butter, roasted coconut chips, flour tortillas, boxed mac and cheese, Spanish rice, salad dressings

Dairy - sharp cheddar, mozzarella, cottage cheese, eggs, Blue Bunny Birthday Party ice cream

Protein - turkey breakfast sausage

Other - organic apple juice, Synergy Kombucha, champagne, 2 KIND bars, tortilla chips, potato chips, Hy-Vee pre-made pizza, English Toffee cookies, almond milk, tofu

Total - $191.31

We already had some protein in the freezer and we planned some vegetarian and vegan meals for the week, so we didn't buy much protein.

I included everything we bought, but keep in mind that the BF and I don't always eat all of the same things (ie. mac and cheese is his and goji berries are mine, etc.) We eat most of our meals together, but occasionally we'll eat different things for lunch and we only eat breakfast together on the weekends. (But don't start thinking I'm the healthy eating angel - I ate that birthday party ice cream as soon as we got home from the grocery store!).

As always, I created a meal plan before we went grocery shopping. This grocery haul and meal plan should take us through two weeks (we'll also have leftovers/eat out/eat at my parent's house). We will probably have to make a mini grocery haul the second half of the month and stock up on more protein and produce.
