Weekend Recap {Sept. 19-21} - Housewarming Party!

As soon as I got out of bed this morning, the negative thoughts started racing through my head - I look so fat, I've gained weight, I'm breaking out and my face looks ugly, my hair looks terrible today, my makeup looks horrendous, I hate all my clothes, etc. As the morning went on, my mood worsened.

Have you ever had a day like that? I just couldn't push a positive thought through my brain! I didn't eat very well over the weekend, and didn't get in a single workout. I also didn't drink enough water, and didn't have a lot of time to relax. Let's just say I woke up on the wrong side of the bed today. 

Then I read this quote, and it made me realize that this bad day just means I need take a step back, reevaluate my needs and take better care of myself. 

"Setbacks are miracles in disguise. Always believe that things are working out in your favor." (Source)

I also reminded myself that my weekend was full of amazing quality time with friends and family. Something that is also much needed.

Here are details about my weekend...

Friday, Sept. 19 

I'm pretty sure this is how my moody Monday began to form. I woke up at 4 a.m. to head to Lincoln for work. I'm part of a leadership group on campus and we had to attend a University of Nebraska Board of Regents meeting. 

The best part of the trip was making a stop at the Dairy Store on the University of Nebraska-Lincoln's East Campus. They make their own ice cream and cheese (it's part of the ag college). I got the Caramel Cashew Ice Cream and it was divine.

When I got home, the BF and I immediately started preparing for our housewarming party! This was definitely the highlight of the weekend. 

We grilled burgers, turkey burgers and brats, and out guests brought delicious side dishes like potato salad, macaroni salad, Watergate salad and a raw Brussels sprouts salad.

We gave tours of our new house, laughed a lot and had a few drinks.

We also got this amazing fruit bowl from our friends Russanne and Justin!

Saturday, Sept. 20

I woke up and made an egg sandwich - eggs, turkey bacon, gouda on whole wheat English muffin. I also had an iced coffee with almond milk.

Then I walked downtown for the University of Nebraska at Kearney Homecoming Parade. I was meeting my co-workers to hand out buttons for people to wear. I eventually met up with my family and watched most of the parade with them.

My parents then took me, my niece, brother and sister-in-law out to brunch at a new-to-me restaurant, The Breakfast Cart. I ordered the Blueberry Waffles, and they were amazing! 

That afternoon, my parents, niece, Brynn, and I drove to Grand Island to go to Stuhr Museum, which features history of the pioneers who settled the Nebraska plains in the 19th century. There's an old railroad town, and Brynn was extremely disappointed that all the houses were locked (the houses are open to the public all summer through Labor Day). So she wants to go back and see what the insides of the homes looked like. Luckily, the old schoolhouse playground made her happier.

We made a quick shopping stop so my mom could look at shoes. I ended up buying this amazing sweater at Gordman's, a store I always forget about! It's going to be perfect for fall - skinny jeans and black boots! 

We also stopped at Topperz, a fro yo place. I, of course, ate way too much fro yo and way too many candy toppings.

I spent the rest of the evening lounging on my couch watching Breaking Bad. (The BF was working out of town).

Sunday, Sept. 21

I made egg sandwiches again for the BF and I for breakfast. 

The morning was spent working on the blog. You'll notice a new affiliate link to Juil, a shoe company I'm super thrilled about! I'll tell you more soon. I'm also now a Sweat Pink Ambassador! So I spent some time checking out their website and adding their badge to my sidebar (the college badge is up now, but I'll switch it soon. Hello, I'm not in college!). More on that to come later also!

I made a quick smoothie - almond milk, kale, PB2, instant coffee, Perfect Fit Chocolate Protein Powder, flax seeds and ice - before the BF and I drove to Hastings. 

The BF had to mow the lawn at his old house (which he still owns) and I had plans to do wedding crafts with our friend Russanne. It ended up being a nice afternoon full of lots of girl talk. We also got a lot of work done on her centerpieces for her upcoming wedding!

Before leaving Hastings, the BF and I visited his grandma and parents. We hit up Wendy's on our way home - I ate terrible food because I was starving from not eating an actual lunch (hangry!).

Luckily, today is a new day! Although the day started out on a bad note, I'm determined to turn my negative thoughts into positive ones, feed my body nourishing foods, drink plenty of water and break a sweat today!
