Satisfying your popcorn cravings {without artificial ingredients!}

I'm not much of a salty snacker, but when I do have a salty craving I love having popcorn. I love the buttery, salty, crunchiness!

Back in the day, I used to eat microwavable popcorn constantly. This was in my low-cal, low-fat phase of life. I would buy light popcorn and eat an entire bag because it only contained a couple hundred calories. I've always enjoyed volume snacking!

In addition to the light varieties being made with tons of artificial ingredients, microwavable popcorn just isn't a great option.

Microwavable popcorn bags are lined with perfluorooctanoic acid, which is the same toxic stuff in teflon pots and pans. The chemical (when heated) has been linked to cancer and reproductive system damage. The flavoring on microwave popcorn is also toxic! It contains diacetyl, which has been linked to lung damage in microwave popcorn factory workers. There's only been a few cases in consumers, but still!

And not to totally burst your popcorn bubble, but movie theatre popcorn is just as bad. Besides having a bazillion calories, the butter topping is made with artificial ingredients and coloring and usually contains MSG.

A couple of years ago, I bought a popcorn air popper similar to this one. I love it because I know what is going onto my popcorn. I like to drizzle olive oil and sprinkle sea salt on my popcorn. Sometimes I get a little crazy and add some chili powder and a bit of cayenne. 

But sometimes (when I'm feeling totally lazy), I like to have popcorn ready to go. Which is why I absolutely love Angie's Boom Chicka Pop. They come in tons of flavors - Sea Salt, Lightly Sweet, Sweet & Salty Kettle Corn, Caramel & Cheddar, White Cheddar, Salted Caramel and Sweet & Spicy. 

The great thing about Angie's is that it's made with just a few ingredients! They're also made without high fructose corn syrup and are non-GMO.

Hy-Vee let me sample the Sea Salt popcorn, which is made with popcorn, sunflower oil and sea salt and the Sweet & Salty Kettle Corn, which is made with popcorn, sunflower oil, dried cane sugar and sea salt.

And they are soooooo good! 

I highly recommend picking up a few bags of Angie's for cozy movie watching this fall. You will be thanking me when you are cuddled up on the couch with a craving for popcorn!

Angie's also makes some to die for seasonal flavors - Candy Corn, Dark Chocolatier Sea Salt, White Chocolatier Peppermint and Iced Gingerbread. I've tried the candy corn, dark chocolate and peppermint flavors. I can't wait to try the Gingerbread flavor!! Hy-Vee had a huge shipment of the Candy Corn popcorn, but they have been selling pretty quickly. If you're lucky, you may be able to snag one of the last bags!
