Weekend Recap - Feb. 20-22

How was your weekend? I hope you had time to relax, get in a good workout and eat some delicious food.

My weekend started off a bit rocky with a massive headache, but my weekend ended on a high note with a fun and relaxing evening watching the Oscars and eating delicious food.

Friday, Feb. 20 -

Thursday night, I went to bed with a brutal headache hoping it would be gone when I woke up. But I woke up to an even worse headache around 5 a.m. I laid on the couch with an ice pack until about 7:30 a.m., then decided I would go to work late. By 11:30 a.m., my headache was lingering and I hadn't moved from the couch, so I decided to take the whole day off and get some rest. I started reading a book, watched a movie and tried to sleep.

I finally felt a little better around 3 p.m., so I turned on a Jillian Michaels podcast and cleaned the house.


The BF got home from work around 8 p.m., so we had a late dinner. I made taco salads with ground turkey.


I also made a homemade margarita ; ) We finished watching Top of the Lake. I highly recommend it!

Saturday, Feb. 21 -


For breakfast, I had gluten-free oats with chia seeds, goji berries, almond milk, stevia, raspberries, kiwi and sunflower seed butter (not pictured).


Then I headed to a power yoga class at the Good Sam Fitness Center. It was an amazing class full of detoxifying twists and hip openers.


Second breakfast was avocado toast topped with an egg, red pepper flakes and Himalayan pink sea salt.


The BF and I then ran 5 miles for our half-marathon training. It was just a little over 30 degrees, and it felt pretty good weather-wise. Although it did start snowing a bit toward the end of our run. I felt good except for some tummy issues. I definitely shouldn't eat oatmeal before longer runs, nor should I do detoxifying yoga before a run. Oops.


After our run, I recovered with Perfect Fit Protein and almond milk. I quickly showered, then headed out for a health coaching session with a client.


Later, the BF and I drove to Hastings. I ate the new S'mores Quest Protein Bar on the way there. I was really looking forward to trying this! It was delicious, but I hate that it has sucralose in it. It's probably something I will buy very rarely. We dropped off our taxes with our CPA and visited the BF's grandma. Then I went out with Russanne and Betsy for girl's night and the BF played poker with his guys.


We had a great night catching up. It had been too long since I hung out with the girls. We had dinner at Sanchez Plaza. I had my usual chicken fajitas and a Negra Modelo.


I didn't take any photos of our night out, but I did snap a photo of the amazing boots I wore. I feel like I've been hibernating this winter, so I felt the need to get out my fierce boots for a night out.

Sunday, Feb. 22 -


Breakfast was Ezekiel toast topped with natural peanut butter, chia seeds and honey.

The BF took off for Lincoln for his weekend job early, and I spent the morning emailing health coaching clients, blogging, watching The Chew, meal planning and making a grocery list, and picking up the house.

I met my parents, my niece and my brother's in-laws at the HyVee Market Grille for brunch. HyVee has the best Sunday brunch, and it was great to spend time with my fam.


I had an omelet with all the veggies. I also had breakfast sausage, a crab cake, vanilla yogurt with blueberries and strawberries and a cinnamon roll. I should have stopped there, but I decided to check out the dessert options again. I ate a few bites of chocolate peanut butter pudding and a mini chocolate peanut butter cupcake. Too. Much. Sugar.

After brunch, I raced to the gym to sub some fitness classes, but when I got there the regular fitness instructor was there to teach. Miscommunication. I went home and laid on the couch and watched a Lifetime movie, then forced myself to go back to HyVee to get groceries.


Back at home, did a bit of meal prep - I made green juice and overnight oats, cut up some pineapple and cleaned grapes.


Then I prepared a little Oscars party for the BF and I. We had gouda, herb havarti and swiss with crackers and grapes. I had a ginger kombucha champagne cocktail. I also made Chicken, Shiitake and Wild Rice Soup from Skinnytaste. Sooooo good. Seriously. This recipe will be on our regular rotation.

We usually like to watch the Independent Spirit Awards and make a list of all the films we want to see, but we missed it this year. We didn't see very many of the movies nominated for Oscars, but it was still fun to watch. I think we only saw Boyhood and The Grand Budapest Hotel. I still want to see Birdman, The Theory of Everything, Wild (the book was amazing!), Still Alice, Gone Girl (also read the book!) and Into the Woods.

(Oh, and Lady Gaga was my fave performer of the night and Patricia Arquette had my fave acceptance speech.)


We ended the night with some delicious doughnut holes.
