How to make your own smoothie packs

How was your St. Patrick's Day?

The BF made corned beef and cabbage in the crock pot all day, I made a turkey shepherd's pie and my parents came over for dinner. I also enjoyed a Guinness and a mini salted caramel cupcake while we listened to Irish music on Pandora. It was a fun night!

Today I wanted to share how I make smoothie packs. This is something I recently started doing, and it's a huge time saver!

I had a big bag of kale that was starting to go bad. Usually when this happens, I make a batch of green juice. But I didn't have the other fruits and veggies I usually put in green juice. So I had the bright idea to freeze the kale!

I took all the frozen fruit from my freezer and started putting a bit of each into plastic sandwich bags, along with a handful of kale.

You can just use whatever frozen fruit you have. I happened to have frozen blueberries, strawberries, peaches, raspberries, blackberries and cranberries. I highly recommend staying stocked up on frozen fruit. It's perfect for throwing into smoothies or making a yummy pancake topping with.

If you're a little organizer like me, you can write what is in each smoothie pack with a Sharpie on the outside of each plastic bag.

All of mine just had a bit of everything in them. I didn't measure anything, I just threw a handful of each fruit into each pack. You could be more strategic about it and create your favorite fruit/veggie combinations.

Some ideas:

  • strawberry bluberry banana
  • raspberry peach
  • spinach blueberry banana
  • cranberry raspberry
  • mango peach
  • mango banana mint

Then throw the smoothie packs in the freezer. When you want a smoothie, just add almond milk, cashew milk, soy milk or your favorite milk, a banana (if it's not already in your smoothie pack) and some vegan protein powder (if it's a post-workout smoothie).

So easy! This is also a much more affordable option than the smoothie packs you can buy at the grocery store.

Let me know if you try this (or do it already)! What are your fave smoothie combinations?
