Happy Monday! I spent the weekend in Kansas City with my fam to celebrate my aunt's 60th birthday.

I got to catch up with relatives, do some shopping, have fun at a water park and sneak in a meeting with a company I'm working with. It was a great weekend.

The line up of family members on this trip were: my parents, my brother, my sister-in-law, my niece, my Aunt Adel and Uncle Vic, my cousin Kristi and her husband, Avery, my cousin Jenny and her son, Ethan, my cousin Aaron and his wife, Tricia, and their kids, Cailyn, Dominic and Easton, and my Aunt Cindy and Uncle Mike, and their son, Thomas (and Thomas brought his girlfriend). Yeah…21 of us!

I'm actually feeling a bit exhausted today, but I got up early anyway for a morning workout. It definitely helped get me going!

Friday, July 17

My parents and my niece, Brynn, picked me up at 8 a.m. for our five hour drive to KC. Brynn and I did meditation breathing from Yoga Pretzels, I finished reading Tales from the Yoga Studio (cheesy, but entertaining chick lit) and Brynn sang goofy songs. I later realized that Brynn took a slow motion video of me eating an energy ball. Fascinating stuff! We stopped at a Wendy's somewhere in Missouri for lunch. I had an Asian chicken cashew salad, which was decent for fast food.

When we arrived in Kansas City, we went right to Union Station to take Brynn to Science City. Union Station is so beautiful. I loved the ceiling.

Brynn loved all the exhibits at Science City.

I admit, some of them were even fun for adults.

After Science City, we checked into our hotel - the Best Western Premier by Legends. Brynn and my dad hit up the hotel pool, and my mom and I went to Legends for some shopping. I bought an Old Navy yoga bra and a peach and navy maxi dress from Loft.

We met up with the rest of our fam for dinner at Yard House. While we waited for a table, I took Brynn to Charming Charlie's. She got a new purse, iPod Touch case and a pair of sunglasses. I think she felt pretty grown up with her new purse.

I had a delicious Kansas City Bier Co. Dunkel, a lager. I ordered a blackened swordfish taco and a chicken taco with chipotle, feta and cumin crema. The chicken taco was good, but the swordfish was just OK. I also ordered truffle fries, which I shared. They were pretty amazing. We waited forever to put in our orders and for our food. We did have a party of 12, and the restaurant was busy, but we were there for like three hours. However, our servers and the manager were very accommodating for our group.

After dinner, my brother, sister-in-law, my cousin, Kristi, and her husband, Avery, and I went to the Hollywood Casino. The boys gambled while us girls found a balcony where we sat and chatted the night away. I'm not really into gambling, but I wanted to catch up with Kristi, who lives in Atlanta (remember when I went to her wedding last summer?) We finally pulled the boys away from the tables around 1 a.m.

Saturday, July 18

I woke up feeling pretty groggy around 6:30 a.m. Five and a half hours of sleep is not enough for me! But I got dressed and hit up the hotel's continental breakfast anyway. The Best Western had a pretty terrible selection of healthy food. Only apples and oranges - not my fave breakfast fruits - and no oatmeal. So I had scrambled eggs and half of a bagel with peanut butter. I didn't do a very good job of planning ahead for breakfasts.

I did bring a lot of snacks - homemade peanut butter granola, energy balls, beet juice, Kind bars, vegan protein powder, etc.

I did a quick yoga video from Grokker before getting ready for the day.

My mom and I headed into the city for my meeting with Alicia and Kyle from Life Equals {<--- referral link} I'm an ambassador for the company, and on my last conference call with them I mentioned that I would be in KC this summer. Luckily, they were up for meeting in person! We met at Oddly Correct, a coffee bar in Midtown.

They roast their own beans and make drip coffee. I always wonder if people think I'm weird for asking to take their picture.

I had their cold brew, and it was so amazing.

The meeting was amazing. Alicia is also an IIN graduate and health coach, so I loved talking to her about health coaching. It was also interesting to learn more about Life Equals, the products they're working on and how our relationship will work. (FYI: you can get 75% off your first monthly order from Life Equals by using the code SaraGib75)

Before meeting up with the fam, my mom and I decided to check out the Cultivate Festival that Alicia had suggested during our meeting. It was a food and music festival organized by Chipotle.

They had tons of samples and freebies from companies like Naked, California Avocados, Earthbound Farms, North Face, the Naked Grape, Annie's Homegrown, Plum Organics and more. The new berry almond nutmilk from Naked was really good. I need to research the ingredients.

They also had a beer tasting tent, chef demos, an artisans' hall, live music, Chipotle food and exhibits. It was fun!

Before heading back to the hotel, my mom and I stopped at a Chipotle for lunch. I had a veggie bowl with brown rice, black beans and guac.

Then we met up with the fam at Schlitterbahn. I wasn't too bummed that we arrived late because it had been raining off and on all morning. But when we got there it was crazy humid!

My aunt reserved a cabana for our group, so it was nice to have an area to keep our stuff and meet up. I was a little overwhelmed when we got there because it was so hot and there were like a million people there. But after having a bit of solitude in the cabana and cooling off in the water, I was fine.

The cabana looked like a river boat, and it was actually on water.

It was also directly across from the bar.

I stuck to floating on tubes down the lazy river, wave pool and rapids. Schlitterbahn is home to the world's largest water slide - Verruckt. It looks terrifying. Some of my fam really wanted to do it, but all the reservations were full when they got there, and there was a three hour wait.

After lots of pool time and a ride on the zip line, I indulged in a frozen margarita.

It was a fun day!

Back at the hotel, we all showered and got ready to celebrate my aunt's birthday. They had fried chicken, barbecue pork, coleslaw, potato salad and macaroni salad catered. I had a piece of chicken and raw veggies with hummus, and birthday cake, of course.

It was fun for all of us to hang out. My Aunt Cindy and Uncle Mike and their son, Thomas, who all live in Kansas, came to hang out as well.

The boys hit up the casino again that night, but I headed for bed early. I was exhausted!

Sunday, July 19

I had the same hotel breakfast as I did Saturday because the options were the same. I intended to use the hotel gym to workout Sunday morning, but I was so tired that I decided to rest my body. After getting ready, I snapped a few family photos of my aunt and uncle's family because they only get together a couple of times a year.

Brynn, my dad and my brother hit up the hotel pool one last time.

We said our goodbyes, then my parents, brother, sister-in-law, Brynn and I checked out of the hotel and grabbed lunch at Chili's. I honestly don't think I've ever been to Chili's. I would have rather tried a local KC restaurant, but Chili's was near our hotel and easy. I had a bowl with rice, corn salsa, chicken, mixed greens, avocado, tortilla strips and sour cream. It wasn't great. The chicken tasted reheated.

Brynn wanted to stop by Legends before we headed home. I bought her the book Drama at BAM! and another IPod Touch case at Claire's. She really wanted to buy a puppet at Legends. I asked her why, and she said, "So I can do puppetry in the car on the way home." Obviously.

Then it was time to head home. Brynn and I were sooooo tired. My dad snapped this photo ; )

After our nap, Brynn and I played 20 questions and I took videos of her singing commercial jingles. We had lots of laughs.

I arrived home around 7:30 p.m., and caught up with the BF. He didn't go with me because he was in Chicago hanging out with some of his college friends.

It was a great weekend! Now I need a day off to recuperate!

Do you take trips with your fam? Where do you usually go?
