A Day in the Life

What is a typical day like for you? This may be weird, but I often wonder how people spend their time.

I'm nowhere near perfect, but I thought I would give you a glimpse into a typical day for me. I try to fit movement, healthy eating and healthy choices into each day. What I'm sharing is what works for me in this moment in my life. There's room for improvement and there are some things that serve me well. So here it goes!

This was my Tuesday...

4:50 a.m. - My alarm went off. I hit snooze.

5 a.m. - I shut my alarm off, and laid in bed for 5 minutes before getting up.

5:15 a.m. - After getting dressed, brushing my teeth and filling my water bottle, I was out the door on my way to the gym.

5:25 a.m. - I taught a 45 minute indoor cycling class at the Wellness Center at CHI Health Good Samaritan.

6:20 a.m. - Back at home, I was really hungry so I made protein pancakes topped with blueberries, almond butter and pure maple syrup. I also made a week's worth of apple cider vinegar drinks.

7 a.m. - I checked Facebook while I watched Good Morning America.

7:20 a.m. - I hopped in the shower and got ready for my workday.

7:50 a.m. - I took my Life Equals supplements {<-- affiliate link} and filled my coffee mug. The BF makes me coffee every morning ; )

7:55 a.m. - Before leaving the house, I picked an affirmation card from my new Own Your Awesome Affirmation Deck from Your Joyologist.

8 a.m. - Off to work. I'm a writing specialist in the communications and public relations office at the University of Nebraska at Kearney. I write news releases, write web content, write feature stories for on-campus publications, schedule media interviews and help out with on-campus news events.

10:15 a.m. - My FitBit vibrated to remind me to get up and move. I went on a 15 minute walk in the peaceful neighborhood near campus. When I got back to my office, I refilled my water bottle.

10:45 a.m. - I was a bit hungry so I snacked on some nuts and popcorn. I keep my desk drawer stocked full of healthy snacks.

11:55 a.m. - I shut off the overhead light in my office, turned on my lamp and did a 10-minute meditation with Grace Smith on Periscope.

12:15 p.m. - I left to go to an Activate Buffalo County board meeting. I'm the chair of the board so I facilitate the meetings.

12:30-1:30 p.m. - We had a speaker at the ABC meeting who talked about stressing less at work.

1:30 p.m. - I drove home to grab a quick lunch. I should have brought my lunch to work, but I didn't look at my schedule before I left in the morning. I was craving eggs, so I made my go-to lunch, avocado mashed on Ezekiel toast topped with red pepper flakes, pink Himilayan salt, turkey bacon and eggs. I had a sweet craving after lunch, so I also had a Clif bar.

2:15 p.m. - Back to work.

3:30 p.m. - My FitBit vibrated to remind me to get up and move. I went on a 20 minute walk in a neighborhood near campus I had never explored before.

4:40 p.m. - I snuck out of work a bit early. To be really honest, it is super challenging for me to work 8 hours. Around 3 p.m., my body starts to ache from sitting all day, I start to feel couped up in my office, I feel like I need sunlight and I have a hard time focusing.

4:50 p.m. - I put on my swimsuit and made a smoothie with unsweetened almond milk, frozen blueberries, strawberries and mango and a new to me nutritional shake by Puritan's Pride. They sent it to me because I'm a Sweat Pink ambassador. It has 15 grams of protein, 5 grams of fiber, 3 grams of collagen, B vitamins, probiotics, flaxseeds, omega-3 fatty acids and electrolytes. I don't love that it's made with whey protein, but I like that it doesn't have artificial sweeteners, color, flavors or preservatives. It also tastes like vanilla cake batter. I watched 20 minutes of the Mindy Project while I drank my smoothie.

5:15 p.m. - I left for the Wellness Center to teach deep water aerobics.

5:30-6:30 p.m. - Water aerobics!

7:10 p.m. - I ate dinner. The BF had a work thing in the evening, so we ate separately. I had a salad with mixed greens, white beans, roasted beets, feta and a homemade oregano dressing.

7:30 p.m. - I checked in with my health coaching clients and wrote this blog post.

8:15 p.m. - The BF and I took the dog for a walk (this was really the only time the BF and I spent together all day!). I hit 10,000 steps for the day!

8:45 p.m. - I fell asleep on the couch.

9:30 p.m. - I got up and got ready for bed - washed my face, brushed my teeth, took out my contacts.

9:40 p.m. - Lately, I've been laying in bed reading to wind down at night. But I got into bed and I was out. I don't normally go to bed this early!

Sharing my day with you was actually a good exercise for me. Looking back, I realized that I was going the entire day. I only had a few moments to myself, which is why I was so tired by the end of the day.

The other thing missing from my day...fun and adventure. My walks and teaching fitness classes were probably the most fun parts of my day. I find it challenging to make fun and adventure part of my weekdays. But when I am stuck in the same routine for too long, I start to feel dissatisfied.

The BF and I also didn't have time to connect. Keeping track of my day made me realize how little time we spend together during the week.

I highly encourage you to take a look at how you spend your day. It's pretty eye opening! A good exercise - make a list of how you actually spend your time. Then make a list of how you would like to spend your time. Compare the lists.
