12 Days of Self-Care {Halfway Recap}

We're already halfway through 12 Days of Self-Care! I hope you have been taking some time each day to practice a little self-care.

I have realized that I really needed this challenge this year! Last week, I wrote about my feelings of overwhelm and how my stress is impacting my health. Then this week, I crammed my schedule with way too many things. The stress manifested into a two-day headache and feeling incredibly run down. I will learn, I swear!

But this challenge has forced me to do at least one thing for myself each day that requires me to slow down and listen to my body, mind and spirit. I've been sharing my daily self-care practice on Facebook, so make sure you're following me there!

Here's how I've been caring for myself during the challenge...

Day 1 - I spent the day with my parents and my niece on a weekend road trip. Getting away and laughing and being silly really is great medicine for stress.

Day 2 - I got up early for a 30 minute run/inclined walk on the hotel treadmill. Lately, I haven't made fitness a priority during travel or on the weekends. So starting my day with movement felt good!

Day 3 - I treated myself to a cinnamon spice tea during a health coaching session + the BF and I had dinner with my parents. I hadn't made our meal plan for the week yet, and we still had a sink full of dirty dishes from the weekend. A meal away from home made life less stressful. And we got to spend time with my parents!

Day 4 - I went to bed WAY early because I was feeling run down all day (look at those dark circles! I got 11 hours of sleep!) I also used my warm neck pillow before I went to bed.

Day 5 - I cooked myself a healthy veggie-filled dinner when I really just wanted to eat a grilled cheese sandwich. When we're feeling tired and run down, healthy eating can be the first thing we give up on. But nourishing foods always help us feel better!

I also drank a cup of Calm while I watched a Christmas movie before bed.

Day 6 - I wrote Christmas cards. This may seem like a chore, but writing Christmas cards gets me in the holiday spirit. I've actually been feeling like the holiday season is going by too fast and stress hasn't allowed me to fully enjoy it. So I'm doing something that will get me in the holiday spirit each day. I wrote out my Christmas cards while I watched a Christmas movies!

I also ordered a Passion Planner for myself! I'm gearing up for big things in 2016!
