I'm absolutely exhausted today after three days of yoga teacher training, but I'm also feeling inspired and uplifted by all the positive energy of the weekend.

As always, yoga teacher training forces me to get out of my comfort zone and learn more about myself. This weekend, we practiced Kundalini yoga, which is a school of yoga that focuses on meditation, pranayama (breathing), chanting mantras and yoga asana (poses).

It was my first time practicing kundalini yoga!

Here's a recap of the weekend...

Friday, July 15

Yoga teacher training weekend snacks.

When we arrived, we participated in Avani's Happy Hour Yoga class taught by Liz. I love starting off our teacher training with a yoga practice.

We did some practice teaching, talked about yoga class etiquette and more.

Training got over at 10 p.m., so I stayed the night with my friend, Russanne. (Avani is in Hastings, which is about an hour away from Kearney, where I live). I had dinner that I brought with me when I arrived at her house - a salad with kale, tofu, roasted beets, hemp seeds and sunflower seeds. We ended up staying up until 12:30 a.m. catching up.

Saturday, July 16

I grabbed an iced coffee at the Art Bar and ate a banana before arriving at the studio. Carole Westerman from Evolve to Harmony Yoga in Omaha was our teacher for the weekend.

We began the day with a Kundalini class focused on abundance. I really loved this class. It's more focused on meditation and breathing than yoga poses, which was different and interesting. But it helped me to go more inward than a traditional yoga flow class.

We spent the rest of the morning learning about cueing poses.

We took some time to brainstorm cueing specific poses.

I had lunch with a group of ladies from class at the Back Alley Bakery. I had the vegetable borani and mushroom blue cheese soup. Both were delicious (and the borani was the only vegetarian option on the menu besides a side salad.)

I grabbed an iced matcha latte at Art Bar before going back to the studio. I should have ordered it with almond or coconut milk and honey. (It's made with milk and simple syrup.) I was off my ordering game.

The rest of the day was spent practice teaching, working on assists and lots more. That's me on the right giving an assist to Ashlee.

I drove home that evening and laid on the couch watching Scandal for the rest of the night. So tired.

Sunday, July 17

I didn't get up as early as I would have liked, so I had to make a quick smoothie for breakfast. It was almond milk, frozen blueberries, frozen banana and vanilla plant protein.

We started the day with a 45-minute yoga practice incorporating all the poses we had been practice teaching. It was a good way to hear how Carole cued the poses.

Then we participated in a Kundalini healing circle. We sat in a circle and sang Ra Ma Da Sa, Sa Say So Hung, a mantra for sacred healing meditation. The idea is to use the meditation to send healing energy to a loved one or to yourself.

Here's the thing…I do not sing. I never sing in public because my voice is absolutely horrible. It really took me a long time to stop focusing on my insecurities and self-consciousness, which held me back from really experiencing the healing circle. I'd like to try this again and work on focusing less on myself.

After the healing circle, we took a break for lunch. I brought my own salad - massaged kale, roasted beets, hard boiled eggs, sunflower seeds, hemp seeds and homemade honey Dijon dressing - and ate outside to get some fresh air.

The rest of the day was spent learning anatomy, practicing assists and more. I drank my minerals and antioxidants drink to stay energized and hydrated.

I also tried this new Pressed Kind bar that I found at Target. It was pretty good.

When I got home, I laid on the couch and didn't move for the rest of the day. I ate organic popcorn with coconut oil and sea salt and drank a Sam Adams Summer Ale while I watched Scandal.

It was another successful yoga teacher training weekend! I kept my Monday night open so that I can have an evening to rest and recuperate. I have lots on my schedule for the rest of the week, so I need some time to relax!
