Weekend Recap {Jan. 20-22, 2017} - Women's March

Happy Tuesday!

I took Monday off from work to go to a medical appointment and a meeting in Lincoln, so I'm a little behind on getting myself organized for the week. 

Over the weekend, the BF and I went to Omaha to join the Women's March. It was an incredible experience, and really helped me to feel more hopeful and positive after the inauguration. 

Here's a recap...

Friday, Jan. 20


I was feeling super low on Friday. It was inauguration day, and I was feeling really sad. So when I got off of work, I practiced yoga. It definitely made me feel a bit more peaceful.


Then I made some homemade guacamole, which I ate with organic tortilla chips and a glass of wine. 

I had some leftovers for dinner and was getting settled in watching The Man in the High Castle when my friend, Lauren, called and asked if I wanted to meet her at Thunderhead Brewery. The BF joined us when he got off work, and our friends, Laura and Ely, showed up too. It ended up being a fun night, and exactly what I needed on a bummer of a day.

Saturday, Jan. 21

Breakfast was a green smoothie...and coffee, of course.


The BF and I took off for Omaha.


We had lunch at Ika Ramen. I had vegetarian ramen with extra tofu. Then we walked around the Old Market until it was time to head to the Century Link Center for the Women's March. We met up with some friends who also traveled from Kearney.


There was a rally before the march started, but the room was full and we couldn't hear anything. So we people watched and read everyone's signs. 


It was really inspiring to see so many people there...women, men, young, old. It really showed that people are willing to stand up for what they believe in. 


We marched a route that took us downtown.


The experience was really incredible. There was definitely a feeling of solidarity as everyone chanted things like, "Love trumps hate." One of my favorite moments was when a young girl yelled, "We want a leader not a creepy tweeter," and the entire crowd began chanting and cheering. 


Everyone was so positive and seemed full of hope, which was exactly what I needed. The march also inspired me to take action, which I know will help me feel less powerless over the next four years. I've already organized a postcard writing party for this week. Some friends, the BF and I will be writing letters to our senators sharing our thoughts on the issues that mean the most to us. 

There were speakers after the march, but the BF and I decided to grab dinner then head home since we still had a three hour drive ahead of us. 


After the march, the BF and I went to the Brickstone District and had drinks and an appetizer at Mula Mexican Kitchen. We shared spicy cauliflower guacamole and I had a cucumber margarita. Yum!


Then we went to the Benson Brewery for dinner. I had a black bean burger with fries, which was delicious. It didn't photograph well, but it was good! I ate about half of my burger and fries and took the rest home. 

We drove home, and returned home around 1 a.m. It was a long day, but totally worth it. 

Sunday, Jan. 22


I made protein pancakes for the BF and I for breakfast.


I walked to my parent's house so my niece could give me a manicure.


For lunch, I made a Blue Apron meal...za'atar roasted broccoli with fregola sarda and tahini dressing. It was sooooo good!

I spent the afternoon reading and relaxing, meal planning and checking out the media coverage of the women's marches around the world.


For dinner, I made another Blue Apron meal...fresh fettuccine with beet, goat cheese and poppy seeds. Another delicious meal. I ate a little goat cheese ; )
