Summer Essentials for Better Health

Summer is officially here, which means more hours of sunshine, spending more time outdoors and wearing all the maxi dresses!

I absolutely love this time of year. Even though I no longer have summers off, (remember those days?) I still think there's a feeling of freedom in the summertime. 

Maybe it's the longer days or all the opportunities to play outside. 

I've had people tell me that it's harder to eat healthy in the summer because of all the outdoor barbecues, summer cocktails and travel. 

I actually think it's easier to make healthy choices in the summer with the abundance of in-season fresh produce. The body also changes with the seasons, and we tend to crave lighter foods this time of year like giant salads and smoothies. And there's always room in our diets for summer cocktails and our favorite grilling out foods. 

But we could all use some simple strategies for staying healthy during the summer, so I'm sharing a few of my summer wellness hacks...

Greens Powder

Since we tend to be on the go a lot more in the summer, adding a scoop of greens powder to water is a great way to get in your greens. 

I use a greens powder that contains organic mushrooms and grasses, but sweetened with stevia so it doesn't have an earthy flavor. You can find it here

Dry Brushing

Our skin goes through a lot in the summer - being slathered with sunscreen, dipped in chlorine-filled pools, and covered in salty sweat. 

My skin gets very dry in the summer, so I use my dry brush almost daily. Dry brushing can increase circulation, which can help reduce the appearance of cellulite and can help your body release toxins more easily. It also helps remove dead skin cells, which will make your skin appear smoother and brighter. Find a dry brush here. 

Minerals & Antioxidant Powder

Staying hydrated when the weather is warmer is absolutely essential. Sometimes it can be hard to drink enough water, so I like adding a scoop of cherry or tropical fruit minerals and antioxidant powder to my water.

Citrus Essential Oils

Lemon Water

Drinking lemon water in the morning can help digestion by stimulating your gastrointestinal tract. In the summer, I like to drink room temperature filtered water with a squeeze of lemon. 

It's also a good way to get in more water and rehydrate after sleeping!
