Finding Freedom From Anxiety

Posted October 6, 2017 in anxiety, meditation, yoga and 2 more

I'm getting really personal on the blog today, and sharing my struggle with anxiety and the one thing I did to free myself from my daily anxiety.

When I looked at my calendar for the day, I was reminded of a networking event I had planned to attend. My first instinct was to come up with an excuse not to go.

But, if I was really honest with myself, I had nothing else going on and the event was going to be a good place for potential business opportunities. I knew I should go.

I decided to go for a run first to let go of some of my nervous energy. Just a few blocks away from my house, I felt as if my throat was closing. I started gasping for air, and my eyes filled with tears. I began walking, taking slow and deep breaths, and repeating a mantra until I felt like I could breath again.

This is what anxiety looks like for me.

Caramel Apple Oatmeal

Posted October 4, 2017 in Caramel Apple Oatmeal, vegan caramel sauce, breakfast recipes and 3 more

Make your morning oats taste like a fall dessert with this caramel apple oatmeal recipe!

Over the weekend, I headed into the kitchen to make breakfast and realized we were out of eggs. Sunday breakfasts are usually egg scrambles, omelets or protein pancakes, so I had to improvise.

I ended up cooking up bowls of oats with fall spices and sautéed apples to mix in. The fiancé, who typically doesn't love oatmeal, said it was the best oatmeal he's ever eaten. He also asked if I could make it again Monday morning.

When I made it again, I decided to add a vegan caramel sauce to replicate a fall caramel apple, and it ended up being so so delicious.

The Best Healthy Foods to Buy at Costco

Posted October 1, 2017 in healthy eating, grocery shopping, Costco and 2 more

I'm sharing my healthy Costco shopping list!

The nearest Costco to my house is actually about three hours away in Omaha, but the fiancé and I still have a membership.

We end up in Omaha every couple of months, so we always make a stop at Costco. We pack a cooler and ice packs just in case we purchase cold foods, and stop at Costco before we head home.

I love it because I can stock up on healthy foods that are typically more expensive to purchase at my local grocery stores. Costco has an amazing selection of health foods with lots of organic options. I'm totally obsessed.

The following is a list of what I buy regularly or have bought at Costco, but there are so many more options! If you have a favorite healthy food you buy at Costco, share it in the comments so I can check it out next time I'm there.

Simple Ways to Eat More Vegetables (without spending hours prepping)

Posted September 27, 2017 in vegetables, healthy eating, greens and 4 more

Struggling to eat enough vegetables because you just don't have time for all that washing, peeling and chopping? I have some solutions for you.

One thing that I hear most from my health coaching clients is that preparing meals with fresh vegetables takes too much time. All the washing, peeling and chopping just isn't convenient.

I get it. On nights when I get home late after teaching a yoga class or meeting with a health coaching client the last thing I want to do is spend a lot of time cutting up vegetables then cooking a meal.

But vegetables are a must. Vegetables are full of nutrients, vitamins, minerals, antioxidants and fiber. When eaten consistently, vegetables improve your overall health by supporting your digestion, skeletal system and blood pressure, keeping your hair, skin and nails healthy, helping to manage your weight, and preventing disease.

Luckily, there are a few simple things we can do to eat more vegetables.

It's officially fall!

I love this time of year. The weather finally cools off, leaves begin to change colors, pumpkin displays start popping up all over, and it's time to break out the cozy blankets and sweaters.

As mother nature is transitioning, we typically go through some changes this time of year as well. We go from easy going summer days to school schedules or fewer vacation days from work. This is usually a time of year when we begin to get busy again.

So it's even more important to take the time to care for yourself.

Self-care is simply doing anything that makes you feel the way you want to feel. Do you want to feel relaxed, at peace, full of joy, inspired or adventurous? Making time for self-care allows you to replenish your spirit.

I change up my self-care routine depending on the season. Fall may be my favorite self-care season because of all the opportunities to get cozy and relax. Here are some ideas to inspire you to take care of yourself more this season...

Four Reasons Why You're Not Losing Weight

Posted September 20, 2017 in weight loss, ditch dieting, lose weight and 4 more

Struggling to lose weight? These four things could be holding you back from finding your healthy weight.

I was recently thinking back to when I first started my weight loss journey. I constantly felt overwhelmed by all the different diets, health magazines and wellness blogs.

I would start a plan, eat a food or meal that wasn't on the plan, and feel like I totally failed. My guilt about failing yet another diet plan would send me down a spiral of binge eating, feeling guilty then looking for another plan to jump into.

I always thought it was me. I didn't have enough willpower or I didn't want it enough.

When I finally realized that it wasn't me, it was dieting, I felt free! But letting go of that dieting mindset can be a challenge.
