What's a typical day of eats look like for a health coach? I'm giving you a special look at all of my real life meals!

One of the questions I get asked the most is what I eat on a day-to-day basis or what diet I prescribe to.

If you've been hanging out here at Sweet Success for awhile, then you probably know that I don't diet. I don't follow a diet and I don't think diets work for the long term.

I eat based on what I feel my body needs in the moment. How exactly does that work?

When I'm in the kitchen eyeing the tortilla chips and guacamole (happens frequently), I take a moment to think about how that will serve me, why I'm craving it, and whether I actually need something more nourishing. Sometimes I go for the chips and guac, and other times I make something that will make me feel more satisfied.

It took me awhile to learn how to eat intuitively, and I'm not perfect. But I like the freedom of eating without counting calories or macronutrients, and it allows me to pay attention to what my body needs from day to day.

Losing Your Identity as a Runner

Posted May 5, 2017 in running, runner, half-marathon training and 6 more

When you've been a long distance runner for nearly a decade and then you stop running, are you still a runner?

All week photos of me running the Lincoln Half-Marathon have been popping up in my Facebook memories.

The race is Sunday, and it's the first time since 2009 that I'm not running.

The photos bring back a lot of good (and bad) memories from half-marathon training and race day. But the photos have also made me feel a little lost.

Girls on the Run 5K Recap {April 29, 2017}

Posted May 3, 2017 in Girls on the Run 5K , volunteer, running and 3 more

This year was the second time I helped coordinate my local Girls on the Run 5K! It was freezing, but it was a success!

The "feels like" temperature was 32° and it was crazy windy.

It wasn't ideal weather for hundreds of third- through fifth-graders to be running a 5K, but it's spring in Nebraska so the weather is unpredictable.

I'm the Girls on the Run 5K coordinator for our region, so I've been getting ready for the run for the past few months.

I'm currently listening to soul music, drinking champagne and eating these Birthday Cake Energy Balls. I take celebrating my birthday very seriously!

My niece actually gave me the idea to make energy balls that taste like birthday cake. I knew it was something I had to do on my birthday this year since I've been obsessed with making energy balls over the past year.

It's My Birthday!

Today is my 34th birthday! I love using my birthday as a time to reflect on the past year and set intentions for the coming year.

I love birthdays!

Birthdays are like the new year in my book. It's a time to look back at the past year and take some time to set new goals and intentions for the coming year.

I also think it's a time to really celebrate. I always take a vacation day from work, and spend the day doing exactly what I want. I'm also a fan of giving yourself a birthday week or a birthday month!
