Staying active and healthy during the holidays can be tough! There is a constant flow of food, your schedule gets packed with parties and family gatherings and lounging on the couch in flannel pajamas watching holiday movies just sounds so much more inviting than going out in the cold to workout!

But there's nothing worse than starting a new year with the goal of losing a bunch of weight you gained during the holidays or having to get in shape all over again because you skipped out on workouts for a couple of months.

For the past few years, I've created a holiday weight management program on Sweet Success. It's been a great way (for me!) to to stay on track during the holidays. But it's not happening this year. I don't have time to get it together.

Luckily, there's another great way for us to stay in shape this holiday season! The Holiday Sweat Challenge.

The Fitness Games Review + a quick at-home booty workout!

It has been absolutely freezing here in Nebraska. It's been the type of cold that just chills your insides and makes you want to put on all the clothes and curl up on the couch to keep warm! 

But I decided that this can't become my winter uniform (even though I swore it was going to be when I posted this pic on Instagram!). 

I think the best way to warm up is to move! But what do you do when leaving the house to hit the gym or go for a run isn't an option? Hello, 6 degrees! I don't think so. 

Workout in your living room! I've been loving at-home workouts lately, and I've been using The Fitness Games app for quick, but powerful workouts I can do without going out into the cold.

Weekend Recap {Nov. 14-16}

My weekend didn't turn out exactly how I had planned, but I just went with it and ended up having a nice few days. 

I didn't get in as many workouts as I planned, but my body definitely needed a rest. I mentioned in my Week of Workouts post that I taught lots of fitness classes last week, and I've been having some hip pain. I'm trying to be better at listening to my body. 

The best part of my weekend was spending time with people I care about! I spent lots of quality time with the BF, my niece, my parents and the BF's sister and grandmother, dad and stepmom.

#TakeTheLeap 30 Days of Yoga Challenge

I seriously need to get back to my regular yoga practice!

I've been teaching extra fitness classes for the past few weeks, and I've barely been able to get in any other workouts. Which is also why I haven't posted a Week of Workouts post in a long time. It's too boring to read about all the fitness classes I'm teaching.

But I'm not subbing any more classes, I cut one class from my schedule and I will finally have time to do my very own workouts again! The one thing I miss the most is yoga.

So I'm excited that SweatPink and prAna are launching the #TakeTheLeap 30 Days of Yoga Challenge. This is exactly what I need right now.

Snow Day Workout

I'm just a little bit more than halfway through the #TakeTheLeap 30 Day Yoga Challenge organized by SweatPink and prAna!!

I joined the challenge to get back into a regular yoga routine. For awhile, I was teaching up to eight fitness classes a week and yoga wasn't happening. I'm currently teaching five classes a week right now, so I have a little more time to get in my own workouts.

Now that I've done yoga every day for over 15 days, I'm feeling great!

I love the theme of this challenge because it totally fits my life right now. I'm dreaming big! I launched a health coaching business earlier this year, I am graduating from the Institute for Integrative Nutrition this week, and I'm working on manifesting big dreams for my new career. I'm feeling so inspired by my clients, my IIN peers and all that the future could bring.

Black Bean Super Seed Brownies

Chocolate makes everything better, right?

Brownies are definitely one of my favorite sweet comfort foods. There's nothing quite like the gooey chocolatey goodness of a brownie.

And if you've never tried making black bean brownies, you are totally missing out. The taste of the black beans completely disappears, and you don't have to use any flour! The black beans add tons of fiber and make the brownies super moist.

I found a recipe for black bean hemp brownies on the Manitoba Harvest website that looked delicious. I decided to add another superfood seed to the recipe to make the brownies even more nutritious! And Black Bean Super Seed Brownies were born.

Life can get absolutely crazy this time of year. Holiday parties, traveling, Christmas shopping, decorating and spending time with loved ones, while all absolutely wonderful, can cause us to throw in the towel on working out and eating healthy.

My goal during the holidays is always to maintain my weight. I don't want to go into the new year with an extra five or 10 pounds to shed. Ugh!

Get a Stronger Core with These 3 Moves

When you think about strengthening your core, you're probably thinking about six-pack abs. But having a strong core is about so much more than some muscle lines.

Having a strong core improves your balance and stability, which can be helpful for every day tasks or for running, participating in sports and doing other forms of physical activity. When your core muscles are weak, you could experience back pain, poor posture or injuries (source).

Week of Workouts {Nov. 16-22, 2015}

Happy Monday!

I'm late posting my workouts from last week because I took the weekend off from the computer, phone, social media, blogging, etc. and spent the weekend hanging out with friends in a cabin at a state park. It was a wonderful weekend, and a much needed break! I'll share more soon!

My goal for the week was to get in 420 minutes of exercise, do yoga or Pilates 4-5 times and go running at least once.

Thanks to two days of hiking, I got in 595 minutes of exercise for the week! I made it to two Pilates classes, but didn't make time for yoga or running.

And I, apparently, didn't take any sweaty selfies last week! I was off my game. I'll get back on it this week ; )

My goal for this week, is to get in 450 minutes of exercise, get back to yoga (3 times at least!) and go running at least once.
