The easiest fruity cocktails you'll ever make

Posted August 29, 2014 in smoothie, cocktails, drinks and 5 more

*My local Hy-Vee provided me with Fruchi Real Fruit Smoothies, but all opinions are my own.

I don't know about you, but I'm not quite ready to let go of summer. People are already going nuts over the Pumpkin Spice Latte! It's still in the 80s with crazy high humidity!

I'm going to hold onto summer for just a bit longer. I still have maxi dresses that need to be worn!

One of my fave ways to enjoy the warm weather and sunshine is with a fruity cocktail.

Eat, Drink & Be Healthy Dinner Party

Posted September 23, 2014 in dinner party, healthy, friends and 8 more

A few weeks ago, I had this random idea to host a dinner party that featured healthy foods and people that I don't know super well. Sounds fun, right? Well, it was!!

I emailed a few girls I know from different aspects of my life - fitness classes I used to take, my old job, etc. I picked girls that I don't hang out with regularly, girls that I know are interested in healthy living and girls that I wanted to get to know better. Luckily, they all responded positively about my dinner party idea.

I wanted to do a potluck party, because it would give us all a chance to try new dishes, share recipes and get new meal ideas. Beyond that, I didn't really have any expectations!

Apple Cinnamon Cocktail

Posted October 16, 2014 in cocktail, Fall, champagne and 7 more

I'm pretty sure I've mentioned this about a dozen or more times, but I LOVE champagne cocktails!

I love champs cocktails beyond the traditional mimosa. My go-to recipe is champagne, cranberry juice and a splash of vodka over ice. I sometimes change up the type of juice that I use and use pomegranate.

Why do I love champagne so much? It's tastes light and you can make a pretty low-cal cocktail with champs. My secret - I buy 4-packs of mini champagne bottles. When you open a large bottle of champagne, you have to drink the whole thing or it will lose it's bubbles. I can't drink a whole bottle, so I buy mini bottles and I can make a single drink!

I wanted to create a fall-ish cocktail using my fave booze. This recipe came together on a whim when I was craving some fall comfort foods.

Happy Cinco de Mayo + Margaritas

Posted May 5, 2015 in cinco de mayo, margarita, healthy living and 4 more

Happy Cinco de Mayo!!

The BF and I have plans to make tacos for dinner tonight. I'm hoping guacamole is involved. I haven't told the BF yet, but I have plans to make a margarita!

Homemade margs are my absolute favorite (besides champagne cocktails, of course). They're just so simple and delicious.

Before I get to the good stuff though, I'm going to vent for one second. Mexican restaurants around here don't make margaritas from scratch. They only use margarita mixes, which are usually made with high fructose corn syrup and artificial colors, and contain upwards of 800 calories. Ugh! I also just don't like them. They're way too sweet.

The BF gets annoyed with me because EVERY single time we go to our fave local Mexican place, I ask them if they can make a marg from scratch. They always say no (even though they have ALL of the ingredients behind their bar!!!). The BF doesn't understand why I ask every time, but you never know if they got a new bartender or someone learned how to make a margarita!

Anyway, whenever I'm out of town and I see a fresh made margarita on a menu I order it. Or I just make margaritas at home.

Fourth of July Watermelon Champagne Cocktail

Posted July 1, 2015 in Fourth of July, July 4th, holidays and 7 more

I've expressed my love for champagne cocktails many times here on Sweet Success, so it's probably no surprise that I concocted a summery watermelon champs cocktail for the Fourth of July.

If you haven't jumped on the champagne cocktail wagon yet, you need to ASAP! They are so easy and delicious. And an added bonus is champagne is pretty low in calories (about 90 calories per serving). When you add a splash of 100% juice, you just add a few extra calories, and you're getting the health benefits of the juice you use!
