Kombucha Round 2

Posted May 15, 2014 in Sweet Success, drink, kombucha and 4 more

Over a year ago, I tried kombucha for the first time. You can read about that fiasco here.

I really didn't like it very much, and didn't give it much thought after that first try. But a lot of the healthy bloggers that I follow drink kombucha (and I like to be part of the cool crowd), and the new Hy-Vee here has a ginormous selection of kombucha (and I feel like I want to buy everything there). So I decided to give it another shot.

How to make delicious flavored water

Posted May 20, 2014 in water, hydration, fruit and 6 more

I don't mind drinking plain old water, but I love water that has been infused with fresh fruit, herbs or vegetables.

If you find it difficult to drink enough water throughout the day, I highly recommend trying infused water. It adds a hint of delicious flavor.

You also get an added nutrition boost because the minerals, antioxidants and nutrients from the produce you use, gets infused into the water!

Raspberry Passion Fruit Smoothie

Posted July 17, 2014 in smoothie, drink, fruit and 5 more

I have this habit of impulse buying produce that I 1) have never tried before or 2) have never heard of before or 3) have no idea how to prepare.

When I see something new in the produce section, I get excited and things go in my cart.

My latest produce impulse purchase was a passion fruit!

Strawberry Champagne Cocktail

Posted August 8, 2014 in summer, cocktail, drink and 6 more

I love champagne. It's light, sweet and bubbly. It's the perfect base for a summer (or fall or winter or spring) cocktail.

I've posted a few of my fave champagne cocktails here before. My go-to mix is usually champs over ice, a shot of vodka and a splash of juice. In the fall and winter, I usually go for cranberry or pomegranate juice. In the spring and summer, I like grapefruit juice. I've even made a champagne cocktail with fresh watermelon juice! Mmmmmm.

But I decided to change it up a bit and get a little fancy.

Happy Cinco de Mayo + Margaritas

Posted May 5, 2015 in cinco de mayo, margarita, healthy living and 4 more

Happy Cinco de Mayo!!

The BF and I have plans to make tacos for dinner tonight. I'm hoping guacamole is involved. I haven't told the BF yet, but I have plans to make a margarita!

Homemade margs are my absolute favorite (besides champagne cocktails, of course). They're just so simple and delicious.

Before I get to the good stuff though, I'm going to vent for one second. Mexican restaurants around here don't make margaritas from scratch. They only use margarita mixes, which are usually made with high fructose corn syrup and artificial colors, and contain upwards of 800 calories. Ugh! I also just don't like them. They're way too sweet.

The BF gets annoyed with me because EVERY single time we go to our fave local Mexican place, I ask them if they can make a marg from scratch. They always say no (even though they have ALL of the ingredients behind their bar!!!). The BF doesn't understand why I ask every time, but you never know if they got a new bartender or someone learned how to make a margarita!

Anyway, whenever I'm out of town and I see a fresh made margarita on a menu I order it. Or I just make margaritas at home.

Cucumber Mint Chia Water

Posted June 15, 2015 in chia seeds, Cucumber Mint Chia Water, summer and 5 more

When the BF and I were in Colorado for Bolder Boulder, we ate at Lyfe Kitchen in Boulder on Pearl Street. I ordered Ginger Mint Chia Water, and my life was changed.

It was so refreshing, and had my love - chia seeds.

I eat chia seeds every single day. The BF couldn't believe when I ran out of the giant container of chia seeds from Costco. I can't help myself. And it's not like I ate a bulk container of Oreos!

Chia seeds are rich in Omega-3 fatty acids and are super hydrating because they absorb tons of water. They also contain fiber, protein, calcium, magnesium and other nutrients.
