My Goals for Fall

Posted September 25, 2014 in Fall, goals, motivation and 7 more

When the seasons change, I like to take a little time to set some intentions for the new season. It's the perfect time to reevaluate the goals you've already set or even set some new goals.

At first, I was sad to see summer go. But I realized that fall is full of new opportunities, a chance to wear clothes I haven't seen in ages (cozy sweaters!) and a way to switch up my meals (hello, butternut squash soup, apple crisp and pumpkin everything!).

Here are my goals for fall...

October Goals

Posted October 7, 2014 in October, goals, motivation and 12 more

I'm a chronic goal setter. I set daily, weekly, monthly, yearly and even life goals.

I feel like I function better when I'm working towards something. It makes me more productive, and there's nothing better than that feeling of accomplishing a goal!

But lately, I've been making my usual goal lists and then...nothing. The day or week will come and go and my list remains with no checks next to my goals.

Then I read a post about goals written by a blogger I met at FitBloggin. Brooke Not on a Diet creates daily, weekly and monthly goals each month and decides on a reward if she meets her goals. I totally love this idea, and I know it will help motivate me to get going on my goals!

Week of Workouts {Oct. 18-24}

Posted October 24, 2014 in Week of Workouts, workouts, fitness and 6 more

I'm sad to say that my workouts from the past week are a bit boring - ALL of my workouts were classes that I taught.

Right now, I'm teaching 5-6 classes a week. I won't be teaching those noon core strength classes at the university anymore. They cancelled all the noon classes because of low attendance. I'm not too disappointed. Teaching seven classes a week was a bit too much.

As I've mentioned before, I do get a decent workout in all of the classes that I teach. But I do need to start incorporating more of my own workouts into my routine. I haven't been doing enough toning/strength training (as usual) and I would like to be running more. My November goals include doing my own workouts!

Here are my workouts from the last week...

October Goals Review

Posted October 30, 2014 in goals, goal setting, yoga and 10 more

Earlier this month, I set some small goals for October that would help me get closer to my overall fall goals.

I used Brooke: Not on a Diet's format for goal setting and set daily, weekly and monthly goals with a reward if I achieved those goals. I think I did OK. I definitely didn't accomplish all of my goals, but having something to check off every day made me work harder to achieve the goals that I had set.

Here's how I did...

Novemeber Goals

Posted November 4, 2014 in goals, November, Fall and 7 more

Last month, I set some goals for the month - something new I'm trying to help me reach my larger overall goals for fall

I got the idea from a blogger I met at FitBloggin. Brooke Not on a Diet creates daily, weekly and monthly goals each month and decides on a reward if she meets her goals. I totally love this idea because I often set lots of goals, get motivated, then lose steam and don't accomplish my goals.

I did OK, last month. See what I accomplished in October here.

I realized that I need to come up with a better reward. My reward was a Fabletics outfit, something that I would buy for myself even if I didn't earn it. So for this month, I came up with something that I normally wouldn't do for myself.

Week of Workouts {Dec. 6-12}

Posted December 13, 2014 in Week of Workouts, workouts, yoga and 7 more

I was coming off of a week of headaches last weekend, so my Week of Workouts was a bit lame.

This week, I felt back on track. I taught lots of classes and I also got in a couple of runs! One of my Decemeber goals is to run twice a week. It's been hard to fit in with all of the classes I'm teaching, but I'm fitting in short runs!

Also, one of my December goals is to do yoga every day. I didn't get yoga sessions in every day, but on the days I did yoga my sessions were short (10 min.) practices on my own without a video. My goal next week, is to get in longer yoga sessions every day!

Weekend Recap {Jan. 2-4}

Posted January 5, 2015 in weekend, Weekend Recap, recipes and 6 more

I'm back at work today after nearly two weeks off! My holiday break flew by and, to be honest, I'm not ready to be back at work.

I had a long list of things I wanted to accomplish during my break, and I got through just a handful of them - watching as many Christmas movies as possible, relaxing, launching my new health coaching business (!!), creating a Sweet Success newsletter (sign up here), teaching extra fitness classes, spending tons of time with my family, organizing my home office and taking time to myself.

There were some things I didn't get to, but I feel like my break was a good mix of spending time with people I care about, relaxing and being productive. Full disclosure, I was either wearing workout clothes or pajamas during my entire break. It was the best.

I'm actually feeling a bit under the weather today. This happened to me last year also. As soon as my holiday break was over and I had to go back to work, I got sick. Maybe my immunity gets weak because I drink wine and winter beers nearly every evening during my vacation!

Anyway, here's how I spent the last few days of my wonderful break...

Happy Birthday To Me!

Posted May 1, 2015 in birthday, memories, accomplishments and 8 more

Today is my 32nd birthday! (That is what I look like today…on my 32nd birthday! ; )

I absolutely love birthdays. I thoroughly enjoy having a day (or a week…or a month) that is all about me. Truth: I've been celebrating a birthday week! I have discovered that so many people don't like their birthdays or don't think birthdays are that big of deal!! I think it's because people rely on others to make the day special. I am a believer in making the day what you want it to be!

I always plan out exactly how I want to celebrate my day. I think about the things that make me truly happy and I think about ways to treat myself, and I make it happen! My birthdays almost always involve taking the day or part of the day off of work, getting a massage, indulging in some delicious sweet treat and spending time with the BF and my family. My favorite things!

My birthday week began on Monday with Ben & Jerry's The Tonight Dough (amazing!). Tuesday was Wild from the Redbox (we never watch movies during weekdays!). Wednesday was a spa night. Thursday I treated myself to a new pair of yoga leggings. These Reebok pineapple capris. And today is my birthday, which will be full of special treats.

Birthdays, to me, are also the perfect time to reflect on the past year. I'm constantly distracted by my to do lists and future plans, that I don't always take time to appreciate what I've accomplished.

(The BF and I camping in Colorado in 2013. One of my fave memories)

One thing that I've realized in the past year is that life is about relationships and experiences. I've spent way too much time wishing I was skinnier or prettier or had certain material items. But my happiest moments aren't times that I felt thin or pretty or when I bought something I wanted. My happiest moments are those spent with the people I care about or experiencing something new or exciting.

One of my goals in my 32nd year is to shop less. I really love shopping, and I often use shopping as a way to treat myself or make myself feel better when I'm feeling down. But things don't improve the quality of my life.

New fave quote: "One of the best things in life is realizing you're perfectly happy without the things you thought you needed most."

I also want to be more present. I'm definitely someone who is always thinking about the future, thinking about my to do list, my schedule and accomplishing my goals. I have a hard time enjoying the present because I feel like I need to be going, going, going.

How to Live a Full Life Without Regret

Posted May 20, 2015 in dream, bucket list, universe and 6 more

As my birthday approached this year (it was May 1), I started thinking a lot about what I want to do. Not where I want my career to go or where I see myself years from now. I was thinking about fun things I've always dreamed about doing.

I've never written these things down, and I've probably never shared most of these things with anyone. But I've always had a running mental list of life goals.

I love the quote, "In the end, we only regret the chances we didn't take, relationships we were afraid to have, and the decisions we waited too long to make."

Now that I'm in my 30's and living (or at least pretending to live) as a real adult working full-time, paying bills, doing household chores, etc., I am so much more aware of how little time we have. I don't want to get too deep here because I have a fun list to share, but in my teens and 20's I felt like I had all the time in the world to experience the world.

Now it feels like there isn't enough time. I'm not talking about death. Just that between working and fulfilling obligations, we don't always make the time to be adventurous or make our dreams happen. I don't want to look back at my life and think "Wow, I worked really hard, paid my bills on time and had a clean house." I want to look back and think, "Wow, my life was full of adventure." I want to live a full life.

Which is why I'm sharing my list of dreams. I originally shared this list in my newsletter (you can sign up here). I'm putting them out in the universe so that I can begin to manifest them.

Happy First Day of Fall!!

Posted September 23, 2015 in Fall, goals, gratitude and 4 more

(a photo from the Sweet Success archives! Cabin trip at Platte River State Park in the fall of 2012)

Can you believe that fall has arrived??!? This year has just flown by.

Since it's the first day of fall, I wanted to take a moment to express some gratitude for summer. When spring turns to summer and summer turns to fall, we tend to just keep pushing forward. But it's nice to express a little gratitude for what the season brought to your life.

I also like to set goals for the new season. I like treating each new season just like I do the new year. It's a good time to reevaluate the goals you set earlier in the year and think about what you want your life to look like in the upcoming months.

Today I'm sharing my gratitude list for summer and my goals for fall...

Set Yourself Up for Your Most Successful Year

Posted December 30, 2015 in new year, goals, new year resolutions and 6 more

One of the reasons that most New Years resolutions fail is because we don't take the time to plan.

I don't even know how many times I started the year saying I wanted to lose 15 pounds. Then, just a few weeks later, I was skipping workouts or going back to my unhealthy eating habits. I felt like I had failed, so I gave up on my resolution.

My downfall was that I didn't have a plan. I hadn't created a clear action plan that would help get me back on track when I veered from healthy eating and working out. Accomplishing a goal never happens on a straight road. We go up steep hills, take U-turns, get lost and back track. But when we have a plan, it makes it easier to keep going even if we've lost our way for a bit.

There are a few tools that I use to create plans to accomplish my goals. These are super simple things that will help you plan for success!

My Goals for 2016 {Peacefulness and Joy}

Posted January 1, 2016 in new year, goals, new year resolutions and 5 more

2015 was an amazing year full of exciting changes, taking risks, going on adventures, facing challenges, having success, failing, beautiful lessons and having fun.

{Here's a look back at 2015}

I started a business! What?!?! I never imagined that I would become an entrepreneur. I'm still in the beginning stages of creating my business and, to be honest, I feel like I have no clue what I'm doing. My fears and insecurities about starting a business, and my increasingly busy schedule, had me feeling overwhelmingly stressed by the end of the year.

Luckily, I had two weeks off from my full-time job during the holidays (I work for a university). I decided to take some of that time off from blogging and working on my health coaching business as well. It was during this time of rejuvination that made me realize that I wanted to create something different in the new year.

One thing that I have realized about myself is that my day is better when it begins peacefully. When my mornings are rushed, hectic and stressful, I feel that way all day long. But when my morning is relaxed, quiet and slow moving, my day is less stressful.

I decided that I wanted this year to be all about peacefulness and joy (read more about that here), so I've implemented a new morning routine.

I tested it out during my holiday break from work, and I've continued my routine now that I'm back to work. I've been feeling less stressed as I begin my day. I truly believe that how you start your day sets the tone for the rest of your day!

Here's how I start my day and how you can create your own healthy morning routine...

New Year 30 Day Jump Start Program

Posted December 16, 2016 in 30 Day Jump Start, new year, New Year's Resolution and 6 more

30-Day-New-Year-Jump-Start.png#asset:715

How many times have you began a new year with lofty goals to lose weight only to give up on your diet and ditch the gym after a couple of months (or weeks)?

Your New Year's resolutions to lose weight most likely haven't worked because you felt deprived and restricted and you were forcing yourself to do exercises you hated.

It can be confusing, frustrating and a bit overwhelming to know what to do for long-term success. There’s so much conflicting information everywhere we turn, and sometimes we just feel defeated and give up.

One thing we do know for sure is that restrictive diets don’t work long-term, and rapid weight loss often leads to rapid weight gain. I've said it before…diets don't work.

My Word for 2017 - Intention

Posted January 5, 2017 in new year goals, intentions, creating an intentional life and 8 more

Word-for-2017-Intention.png#asset:7310:m

I've always loved setting goals in the New Year. It just seems like the perfect time for new beginnings and an ideal time to check in with yourself to see if your actions are aligned with your vision for your future.

I usually take some time at the end of the year to review the past year and write some goals for the new year. But this year, I found myself coming back to this process over and over again.

I journaled my accomplishments in 2016, my favorite memories, my worries for the coming year, release statements, what I want to manifest in 2017, how I want to feel and more.

I realized that I was spending so much time creating a clear vision for the year because I felt like I was treading water during 2016. I overcommitted and over-scheduled myself, and found myself doing things without a clear idea of what I wanted to get out of the experience.

I spent so much time focused on being productive and getting through my to do list, but I never manifested what I desired and I ended up feeling stressed and burned out by the end of the year.
