Learning to Love Yourself More {Part 2}

Posted February 12, 2016 in self-love, Self-Love February, self-esteem and 4 more

This month, I'm sharing tips to help you learn to love yourself more! Last week, I shared ways to incorporate more self-care into your life. (read about it here!)

This week, I want to talk about authenticity. One thing that I've realized over the years is that the more that I am my true self, the more I like myself.

Throughout our lives, we feel pressures from others, from society and from ourselves to be a certain way. We, purposefully and subconsciously, begin to mold ourselves into the person that we think fits those images.

Maybe it's just dressing a certain way to fit in (which we still do as adults!), but it could also be pursuing a career that others felt was best for you.

I began struggling with low self-esteem when a third-grade classmate informed me that I was fat. It was then that I felt like I didn't fit in anymore. I didn't realize it until I was an adult, but being skinny was tied to my self-worth. This was the beginning of decades of trying to get skinny to be loved, and years and years of destructive behaviors to cope with my low self-esteem.

So how do we let go of those messages we've been telling ourselves and become our true selves?

4 Tips for Dealing with Overwhelm

Posted July 20, 2016 in stress, stress management, dealing with overwhelm and 4 more

As I drove to work today, I had this overwhelmingly intense tension in my chest and throat.

I kept replaying my to-do lists (yes, lists) over and over again in my mind, thinking about the disarray (and let's be honest, dirtiness) of my house and my schedule, which had me going non-stop until 9 p.m.

I wanted to turn my car around, drive home and climb back under my sheets.

These feelings of overwhelming stress are actually somewhat new to me. For just over a year, I've been working full-time, running my health coaching business, blogging, teaching fitness classes, selling a nutrition line and more recently I've been doing yoga teacher training. All this sprinkled in with volunteering for a few organizations, creating a new group for entrepreneurs in my community and preparing to teach a college course in the fall.

While I practice self-care daily to manage my stress and create a bit of balance in my life, I occasionally have a mini meltdown. When I do, these are the steps that I take to take back control and find some calmness...

Get Holistically Hot! {book review}

Posted August 8, 2016 in Your Holistically Hot Transformation, weight loss, healthy living and 5 more

*I received an early copy of Marissa Vicario's book, Your Holistically Hot Transformation, in return for a book review. All thoughts and opinions are my own.

I was really excited to read Marissa Vicario's book, Your Holistically Hot Transformation: Embrace a Healthier Lifestyle Free of Dieting, Confusion and Self-Judgment, because she is an integrative health and nutrition coach who graduated from the Institute for Integrative Nutrition (like me!).

In Your Holistically Hot Transformation, Marissa shares her own journey to wellness and how she made getting healthy, fit and balanced (Hot) less intimidating and attainable.

I totally connected to her approach to wellness...looking at how every area of your life fits together to make the whole.

My Favorite Podcasts {for inspiration and motivation}

Posted August 24, 2016 in podcasts, healthy living, holistic health and 10 more

I love listening to podcasts in the morning when I'm applying my make up and doing my hair (by doing my hair, I mean letting it air dry and spraying sea salt spray on it).

Most of the podcasts that I listen to have some kind of inspirational theme, so it helps me start my day on a positive note.

But I also love listening to podcasts on long drives, during walks or when I'm doing boring data entry-type stuff at work. I love that I'm able to listen to interviews with inspiring people or just learn about something new.

While I mostly listen to holistic wellness podcasts, I did get REALLY into Serial. I couldn't stop listening. I would go on walks at work so I could keep listening. I listened to both seasons, and was obsessed. Like, so obsessed that I listened to and read all the supplemental stuff on the Serial website. So if you haven't listened to Serial, you probably should.

While I had a brief obsession with a real-life crime podcast, I mostly listen to inspirational podcasts. So I thought I would share my favorites with you!

{By the way, one of my dreams is to have my own podcast!}
