October Goals

Posted October 7, 2014 in October, goals, motivation and 12 more

I'm a chronic goal setter. I set daily, weekly, monthly, yearly and even life goals.

I feel like I function better when I'm working towards something. It makes me more productive, and there's nothing better than that feeling of accomplishing a goal!

But lately, I've been making my usual goal lists and then...nothing. The day or week will come and go and my list remains with no checks next to my goals.

Then I read a post about goals written by a blogger I met at FitBloggin. Brooke Not on a Diet creates daily, weekly and monthly goals each month and decides on a reward if she meets her goals. I totally love this idea, and I know it will help motivate me to get going on my goals!

October Goals Review

Posted October 30, 2014 in goals, goal setting, yoga and 10 more

Earlier this month, I set some small goals for October that would help me get closer to my overall fall goals.

I used Brooke: Not on a Diet's format for goal setting and set daily, weekly and monthly goals with a reward if I achieved those goals. I think I did OK. I definitely didn't accomplish all of my goals, but having something to check off every day made me work harder to achieve the goals that I had set.

Here's how I did...

Weekend Recap {Jan. 1-3, 2016} - Last Weekend of my Holiday Break

Posted January 4, 2016 in weekend, Weekend Recap, yoga and 13 more

Well, I'm back at work today after having almost two weeks off. And to be totally honest, I'm not thrilled.

My break from work was much needed. I spent my time off sleeping in, enjoying slow moving mornings, living in my pajamas, watching a lot of Netflix, drinking wine and indulging in more sweets than usual.

But I suppose it's time to get back to the real world.

First, here's how I spent the last weekend of my holiday break...

Delicious Fresh Juice Recipes + the Benefits of Juicing

Posted January 12, 2016 in fresh juice recipes, juicer, juicing and 6 more

I know it's super cliché, but if I could wear yoga pants and drink green juice every day I totally would.

But I live in the middle of Nebraska where juice bars don't exist. My local grocery stores carry bottled juices, but at $4 to $8 each, I refuse to buy them regularly. So about two years ago, I bought an inexpensive juicer (I have this Hamilton Beach Juicer). Now, I absolutely love making my own fresh juices.

For me, drinking fresh juice makes getting in my necessary vitamins and nutrients easier. I especially love drinking fresh juice in the winter, when I don't eat as much fruit.

The liquid extracted from fruits and vegetables contains vitamins, minerals and phytonutrients. Some say that drinking fresh juice allows your body to absorb the nutrients better than when you eat whole fruits and vegetables. It is recommended to drink fresh juice on an empty stomach or about an hour before a meal.

Juicing is also said to allow your digestive system to rest because juice is much easier for your body to process.

I'm all about finding a healthy balance. I love including juice in my diet, which is made up of plenty of whole fruits and vegetables.

I highly recommend watching the doumentaries Fat, Sick and Nearly Dead and Fat, Sick and Nearly Dead 2. Joe Cross, the filmmaker, has a more intense approach to juicing, but the films really outline the benefits of juicing and eliminating processed food from your diet.

My First Juice Cleanse

Posted January 26, 2016 in juice cleanse, juicing, cleanse and 3 more

I recently completed my first juice cleanse!

I've always wanted to try a juice cleanse, but I've never taken the leap to invest in a bottled juice cleanse and I've never done the research to do a homemade juice cleanse.

But by mid-January, I was feeling like I needed an energy boost. With more grey days than sunny days and working extra hard toward my goals for 2016, I was feeling a bit run down. I had already cleaned up my diet a bit after the holidays, but I just wanted an extra nutrition/energy boost.

Since it was my first juice cleanse experience, I decided to try a one-day cleanse...and the BF decided to join me!

We picked up five Suja juices each at Target. But, you can also order their one-day or three-day cleanses online. We chose Suja because it was very affordable.
