Kombucha Round 2

Posted May 15, 2014 in Sweet Success, drink, kombucha and 4 more

Over a year ago, I tried kombucha for the first time. You can read about that fiasco here.

I really didn't like it very much, and didn't give it much thought after that first try. But a lot of the healthy bloggers that I follow drink kombucha (and I like to be part of the cool crowd), and the new Hy-Vee here has a ginormous selection of kombucha (and I feel like I want to buy everything there). So I decided to give it another shot.

Weekend Recap {Jan. 9-11}

Posted January 12, 2015 in weekend, Weekend Recap, punk and 8 more

I'm not ready for Monday! The weekend went by way too fast.

Today I started an elimination diet so, I'll be honest, I indulged a bit over the weekend. I won't be eating dairy for a few weeks, so there was lots of cheese involved in my weekend!

Here are some details from the weekend...

Weekend Recap {Jan. 23-25, 2015}

Posted January 26, 2015 in Weekend Recap, weekend, barre and 9 more

Another weekend gone by too fast!

My weekend was a good mix of movie watching, spending time with family, doing housework, blogging, working out, running errands and hanging with the BF. I got through most of my weekend to-do list (which doesn't always happen!).

I made it through my second weekend of my elimination diet. Find out why I'm doing an elimination diet here. This weekend wasn't as great as last weekend. A lot of the food I ate was pretty blah and uninspired. I definitely need to change things up a bit this week so that I can get through this experiment!

Here's a recap of my weekend...

Your Gut Bacteria is Causing Sugar Cravings

Posted April 28, 2016 in probiotics, gut health, healthy living and 5 more

While some of our cravings for sugar may be caused by emotions or habits, some of us could be experiencing physical cravings.

And it all starts in the gut.

The bacteria in your digestive system can determine the types of foods you crave.

There are millions of microbes living in the body, many in the stomach and intestines. Things like taking antibiotics, eating processed food, eating high sugar food, stress, lack of sleep and breathing toxins can shift the balance of good and bad bacteria in your gut.

Happy New Year!

Can you believe 2016 is coming to a close? This year just flew by.

This year was full of challenges and stress, but it was also exciting and full of great opportunities. I'm ready to let go of the things that aren't serving me anymore and make space for new and positive habits, thoughts, ideas and opportunities.

But before I share my specific goals for the new year, let's take a moment to celebrate the end of the year. My favorite way to celebrate is with a fun cocktail.

New Year's Recap

Happy New Year! I hope you enjoyed celebrating the end of 2016 and welcoming the new year.

My New Year's weekend was pretty low key, which was nice. We spent New Year's Eve with friends enjoying good food and champagne, and playing games. The rest of the weekend was slow moving and relaxing.

Here's a recap of my weekend...

Lavender Kombucha Cocktail

I was recently out for drinks with some girlfriends, and as I looked over the cocktail menu I couldn't find one drink that wasn't a total sugar bomb.

Most cocktails contain sugar in the form of simple syrup or soda or in the form of artificial sweetener in pre-made mixes or diet soda. Not only do these cocktails add tons of extra calories to your diet, but all that sugar will leave you feeling gross.

I love making super simple cocktails at home. I also love using kombucha because it adds some natural sweetness and good-for-you probiotics.

Did you enjoy your holiday weekend?

The weekend felt short with Easter festivities and with the BF working both Saturday and Sunday.

My to do list went untouched and I started the week feeling a bit tired. But the BF and I were able to get in a date night, I made it to yoga and I got to spend lots of time with my family.

Weekend Recap {May 19-21, 2017}

Posted May 24, 2017 in Weekend Recap, hiking, fitness instructor and 6 more

We basically had two seasons of weather over the weekend. Cold, dreary and rainy Friday and Saturday, and totally summer-like on Sunday.

We took advantage and stayed in to relax all day Saturday then got outside and enjoyed the sun on Sunday. It was really a great weekend.

Here's a look...
