When I first began my weight loss journey, every part of my day was consumed by food.

All I thought about was food! While I should have been learning how to listen to my body's hunger signals, discover what my body needed for fuel and find enjoyment in eating nourishing foods, I was thinking about what I could or couldn't eat.

*This post contains links to nutrition products that I use daily. I've partnered with the company because I love and believe in the products!

If you're feeling bloated and tired from overindulging in sugary treats, it's time to detox!

Although I don't detox regularly, I do think it can be beneficial if you've been eating too much sugar and you find yourself having uncontrollable sugar cravings.

Detoxing can be especially helpful after a treat-filled holiday. If you don't ditch the sugar immediately after your holiday sugar binge, you'll find yourself craving sugar and indulging in more sugar for days, weeks or even months. Then it will be even harder to ditch the sweets!

So get started today with my simple sugar detox!

Mindfulness is a state of active, open attention to the present, according to Psychology Today. Being mindful means you observe your thoughts, feelings and body without judgment.

When it comes to food, we often eat mindlessly, not thinking about how our body feels, what our emotions are or even what our food tastes like. We rehash the past, beating ourselves up over eating "bad" foods. Or we focus on the future and what we can and can't eat.

Eating mindfully allows us to tune into what we're experiencing in the present moment. It allows us to savor the food we eat, notice how our body feels before, during and after we eat, and release the judgment we have about ourselves when it comes to food choices.

Practicing mindful eating can be especially helpful during the holidays, a time that can bring up feelings of shame about food and our bodies.
