Yellowstone National Park Trip Recap

Posted July 2, 2015 in Yellowstone, travel, adventure and 6 more

"Wilderness is a necessity ... They will see what I meant in time. There must be places for human beings to satisfy their souls. Food and drink is not all. There is the spiritual. In some it is only a germ, of course, but the germ will grow." - John Muir

I really had no idea what to expect in Yellowstone. To be honest, I didn't know a lot about the park…Old Faithful, bears, wilderness. But I was completely blown away by the beauty of Yellowstone. I was also amazed at how little I knew about a park that is located 14 hours away from where I live. And I quickly realized that everyone else was in on the secret because I heard people speaking about a dozen languages throughout the park.

There was a quote featured near Old Faithful that mentions the spiritual energy at the park. When you're in Yellowstone, you really can feel that energy. Especially after you learn about the geological history of the park, and learn what's going on just miles below the earth's surface. It truly is a magical place.

Just a little context…the BF and I met his sister, Betsy, her husband, Matt, and their kids, Payton and Cooper, on this trip.

Posted November 2, 2015 in weekend, Weekend Recap, yoga and 11 more

Happy Monday!

I had a relaxing and sleep-filled weekend, which was exactly what I needed. Last weekend, I didn't get much rest and I was feeling it all week.

We did make time for fun…the BF and I celebrated Halloween with friends, we enjoyed two date night dinners out, and I got out and enjoyed the beautiful fall weather with my family.

Here are some details from the weekend....

Weekend Recap {Nov. 20-22, 2015} - Platte River State Park

Posted November 24, 2015 in cabin, outdoors, vacation and 6 more

The BF and I spent the weekend in a cabin at Platte River State Park.

I decided to use the weekend away as an excuse to take a phone/computer/internet/social media/blogging detox. It was much needed, and felt so good to disconnect.

We spent the weekend with our friends - Mark, Beth, Meggan, Kevin and Russanne. It was so much fun to laugh, play silly games, indulge in delicious food, relax, hike and enjoy some cocktails with everyone.

All of us take turns making meals, so we get to try new dishes, which is fun. We had some delicious food. I didn't eat the healthiest on this trip, mostly because I didn't bring healthy snacks like I usually do. I ended up eating way too many chips and crackers and too much cheese. I'm feeling it today! (I drank lemon water this morning, and ate lots of fruits and veggies to get back on track!)

Weekend Recap {March 3-6, 2016} - Mahoney State Park Trip

Posted March 7, 2016 in Weekend Recap, Mahoney State Park, running and 8 more

I'm home after a long weekend at Mahoney State Park with the BF and some friends. We had a wonderful time!

It was a weekend full of hiking, playing games, laughing, eating delicious food, indulging in s'mores and cake, and relaxing.

Our 'cabining' trips are my favorite trips because I always feel rejuvenated physically, emotionally and mentally after these trips. There's no pressure to go, go, go. Being at the cabin is very easy going.

Here's a recap of the weekend...

Half-Marathon Training 2016 - Weeks 5-6

Posted March 11, 2016 in running, half-marathon training, half-marathon and 6 more

I'm still running!

I'm currently on the 7th week of my half-marathon training! The race is less than two months away, so my weekend mileage is really starting to increase.

My training has been such a roller coaster with headaches, a blizzard, falls on the ice, weird jaw pain and a gross cold. Read about my first four weeks of training here:

Weeks 1 and 2

Weeks 3 and 4

Maybe training has always been like this, and I just never noticed because I didn't share such specific details on the blog!

I'm working on staying positive about my training, and these running memes definitely help me keep a sense of humor about running.

Here's a look at my fifth and sixth weeks of training....

How to have the best summer

Have-Your-Best-Summer-Ever_160620_140324

I'm going to be honest, I find working to be complete torture during the summer. And now that I work my regular full-time job, run my health coaching business, teach fitness classes and represent a nutrition line, work takes up so much of my time.

It must be connected to childhood, but when I think about summer I think about having freedom. Freedom to soak up the sun, play, go on adventures, get dirty, swim, travel, eat outside and more.

As I've been thinking about summer this year, I've had a feelings of disappointment and sadness. I keep picturing myself sitting in a windowless office for eight hours a day, then going home and working on my computer as I hear the sounds of summer happiness in the distance through my windows.

I'm being dramatic, but I've been on a bit of a negative spiral ever since I watched the movie Joe vs. the Volcano. Watch it if you haven't seen it. The movie will make you want to quit your job, chase your dreams, love more deeply and seek adventure.

Of all of my holiday gift guides, I might be most excited about this one! I created this list of gift ideas for the girl who loves the outdoors, is most happy when she's hiking, is rejuvenated by the mountains and would rather be camping than anything else.

I only began hiking, camping and cabining a few years ago (after the BF and I started dating), but I've developed a deep love for being in nature. It always helps me reconnect with myself and put life into perspective.

While I love the outdoors, I still like looking cute. So I chose some stylish pieces of clothing, accessories and hiking boots and accessories that are still functional. Happy Shopping!
