How to get out of a funk

Posted May 23, 2014 in health, healthy living, mental health and 4 more

I have been in a complete funk for the past few days.

Working out and eating healthy 100% (even 75%) of the time has been a struggle. I want to share what's going on because I want to be open about how my own stresses and insecurities can get in the way of my health/fitness goals. I also want to share how I get back on track. When I have a day or a week like this, I always make sure that I get right back on track and don't let that week turn into a month and that month turn into many months.

Here's what's going on...

How to update your wardrobe for spring

Posted March 26, 2015 in spring, clothes, shopping and 5 more

As the weather has warmed up and I've started to pull out my spring clothes, I've realized that I need a wardrobe refresh.

My body has changed over the past few years and my tastes have changed, and I don't know how to dress myself anymore! Yes, I'm 31 years old and I can't dress myself.

I can't wait until summer because I can just live in maxi dresses, which require no effort. But I suppose I must dress myself during the transition to summer, so I'm making a plan of action. You can follow along with me if you feel like your wardrobe needs a little pick me up.

  1. Go through all of my clothes and get rid things that don't fit, that I don't like, that have holes or stains and that no longer fit my lifestyle and my personal style.
  2. Determine what my issues with my wardrobe are (I've listed some below).
  3. Make a list of staples that are missing from my wardrobe.
  4. Think about what I want to look like and how I want to feel in my clothes.

Stitch Fix Review #1

Posted April 23, 2015 in Stitch Fix, fashion, self-confidence and 6 more

I received my first Stitch Fix box last week!!

I decided to join Stitch Fix because I need a wardrobe refresh. I wrote a blog post, How to Update Your Wardrobe For Spring, and realized that I needed to upgrade my closet.

As mentioned in that post, I have been getting bored with my casual weekend look (jeans, T-shirt, TOMS), I am in need of higher quality clothing, I need outfits rather than random pieces I don't know what to do with and I need jeans that fit (the curse of the narrow waist and thick thighs).

I also want my clothing to reflect who I am right now. I had lots of clothing from my 20's that just isn't me anymore or that doesn't fit well. I went through my closet and got rid of tons of stuff and started a list of staples to start purchasing. And I added in my recent Stitch Fix pieces!

What I'm currently wearing to yoga, to lounge and to run errands

Posted July 23, 2015 in Fabletics, workout clothing, workout and 9 more

I have been absolutely exhausted this week!

I started off the week feeling pretty tired after my Kansas City weekend, and I haven't been able to catch up on sleep. I got up early Monday for bootcamp, Tuesday to teach indoor cycling and Wednesday for bootcamp. My evenings have also been full this week. Last night, I drove to Hastings for a yoga flow class and a meditation class at Avani Day Spa and Yoga Studio. It was amazing! It's a three-week series, so I'll tell you more about it after I've done it for a few weeks.

To get through the day, I'm chugging coffee (from my new coffee mug!) and drinking a smoothie with almond milk, oats, chia seeds, hemp seeds, Perfect Fit Chocolate Protein powder, instant coffee, dates and banana. A tired day calls for chocolate. When I'm tired, I crave sugar and carbs. So I try to satisfy my cravings by eating (or drinking) healthy foods to up my energy.

Today I'm sharing my recent Fabletics {<---- referral link} purchases! I've mentioned about a million times that I'm obsessed with printed workout leggings (You can read about it here and here). I love love love them. I totally believe that when you look good, you feel good. And when you have fun, flattering and comfortable workout clothes, you are more likely to get out there and workout!

How to Lose Weight and Feel Amazing This Fall

Posted August 13, 2015 in health coaching, Fall, change and 6 more

My niece, Brynn, is headed back to school today! She's in fourth grade now, which I can't believe.

While it's been ages since I was preparing for fall classes (I graduated from college 10 years ago this month!), and I don't have any kids, I actually love back to school time and the transition to fall.

I'm not quite ready to let go of warm, sunny days, and summer adventures, but I have started thinking about fall.

Autumn is a season of transition and change. Leaves change to orange, red and brown and the weather begins to cool. While nature is transitioning, it's also a good time to think about your own transformation.

Learning to Love Yourself More

Posted February 1, 2016 in self-care, Self-Love February, self love and 2 more

"Love is the nourishment that we humans need to fulfill our greatness. As I learn to love myself more, I learn to love everyone more. Together we tenderly cultivate an ever more beautiful world."

Since February is a month that is all about love, I'm sharing ways that you can learn to love yourself more!

We're starting with self-care. Self-care is the ultimate form of love towards yourself. Because our lives are crazy busy, caring for ourselves isn't always a priority. But when we put everything else in our lives before caring for ourselves, we aren't able to give at our greatest capacity.

Today's post is pretty personal. I hope that in sharing my own story, you feel less alone and inspired to continue on your journey to self-love.

Today I want to talk about being diligent in your quest to love yourself. Life changes and our bodies change, and it can be difficult to stay on the path to self-love.

One thing that I've realized is that the journey to loving yourself fully isn't a straight line with a beginning and an end. There are bumps in the road, and sometimes you back track.

Summer Travel Shopping List

Posted May 26, 2016 in Stitch Fix, summer, travel and 3 more

One of my favorite things about summer is traveling!

Last year, the BF and I had the best vacation ever and went to Yellowstone. Read about our trip here --> Yellowstone National Park Trip Recap

We don't have any major trips planned this summer because the BF started a new job last fall and has a weird schedule and doesn't have a ton of vacation time. But we're planning some small weekend trips to cultivate the vibe of summer travel.

There are a few key things that are super important to me when I travel - a cross body bag, maxi dresses, big sunglasses and sunscreen. That's pretty much all I need for little weekend getaways. (This is my favorite all-natural sunscreen -->

I asked my Stitch Fix stylist to send me some pieces for summer travel, and she sent me exactly what I asked for!

What I Learned in Yoga Teacher Training

Posted November 7, 2016 in yoga teacher training, yoga, yogi and 6 more

I finished my last weekend of yoga teacher training!

Going through the 200-hour yoga teacher certification program may have been one of the best decisions I've ever made. The experience was so much more than I ever expected.

I went through yoga teacher training through Avani Yoga Studio in Hastings with Evolve to Harmony Yoga in Omaha. My teachers, Carole Westerman, Suzanne Wright and Elizabeth Israel, were absolutely amazing. I feel really lucky to have learned from them and the other teachers at Avani.

Detoxing and cleansing have become incredibly on-trend over the past few years. You've probably seen ads for slimming or detox teas, fat blocking pills, body wraps that promise to melt away fat and lemon juice detoxes that promise you'll look like Beyonce.

I've never been a fan of these detoxes because I believe that you can cleanse the body in a safe and nourishing way.

I'm currently in the middle of creating and testing my 5-Day Real Food Detox, and I'm getting so excited to share it with you.

Embrace Your Body Challenge

Posted June 5, 2017 in Embrace Your Body Challenge, love your body, self-care and 3 more

This time of year can bring up a lot of negative feelings about our bodies.

Now that the weather is warmer and you're baring more skin, you may find yourself noticing your perceived flaws and getting down on yourself. Or maybe you're comparing yourself to others and feeling like your body isn't good enough.

I've been there. Feeling like my body wasn't skinny/toned/beautiful enough held me back from living a full life.

I spent years going on restrictive diets and working out because I was desperate to change my body. But when I finally lost weight, I still hated my body.

I began to embrace my body by doing small things every day. By taking time for myself and becoming more connected to myself. Nothing drastic, no intense workouts and no food deprivation.

Which is why I created a free program and private community to motivate you as you create a happy and healthy life, and body that you love.

10 Ways to Practice Self-Care This Fall

It's officially fall!

I love this time of year. The weather finally cools off, leaves begin to change colors, pumpkin displays start popping up all over, and it's time to break out the cozy blankets and sweaters.

As mother nature is transitioning, we typically go through some changes this time of year as well. We go from easy going summer days to school schedules or fewer vacation days from work. This is usually a time of year when we begin to get busy again.

So it's even more important to take the time to care for yourself.

Self-care is simply doing anything that makes you feel the way you want to feel. Do you want to feel relaxed, at peace, full of joy, inspired or adventurous? Making time for self-care allows you to replenish your spirit.

I change up my self-care routine depending on the season. Fall may be my favorite self-care season because of all the opportunities to get cozy and relax. Here are some ideas to inspire you to take care of yourself more this season...
