I will buy ALL the workout clothes

Posted July 23, 2014 in workout, shopping, Fabletics and 5 more

I am addicted to buying workout clothes. Like, totally obsessed. I can't stop.

My fave fitness apparel to purchase - workouts pants. I love crazy prints and bright colors. So if I see a colorful pair of workout leggings, I have to have a deep heart to heart with myself. "Do you really NEED these pants?" "How often will you wear them?" "Do they really look flattering on you?"

Most of the time my answers are "YES!" and "All the time!" and "Duh!"

Some of my fave purchases have been...

Is it time for a workout wardrobe makeover?

I have tried to keep my activewear contained to one drawer in my dresser. I think that's pretty good! However, the BF thinks I have a minor (ok sort of major) addiction to buying workout clothes.

I will admit, my workout drawer is stuffed full. I have to shove down some workout leggings and tank tops to get the drawer to close. It's the worst right after I do my laundry!

(Right now I do have my winter stuff stored in a plastic bin. When the seasons change, I'll switch my warm weather gear for cold weather gear. So I guess technically all my workout clothes don't fit in one drawer!)

But I definitely feel like I could use a workout wardrobe refresher!

Labor Day Weekend Shopping (yoga apparel under $20!)

Posted August 30, 2014 in workout, shopping, yoga and 3 more

Happy Labor Day Weekend!

I don't have any major plans this weekend, so I'm taking some time to relax. One of my fave ways to unwind is to lounge on the couch with my laptop for a little online retail therapy!

As you know, I love buying workout clothes! When I'm not at my full-time job, I live in workout clothing.

Yoga apparel may just be my fave because in addition to being able to do yoga in it, it's so cozy for lounging! The BF always teases me about lounging on the couch in my yoga pants, but they are so comfortable!

Grocery Haul + Weekly Meal Plan {creating a grocery budget)

Posted September 4, 2014 in grocery shopping, grocery haul, meal planning and 5 more

My last grocery haul was the first one with the BF!

Now that the BF and I have lived together for about two months, we've decided to get more organized with our finances/budgeting.

Neither of us have ever had a budget for food before, but money has been a little tighter for both of us since we moved in together. So we're tracking our spending (especially on groceries and eating out) in September, and in October we'll decide where we can tighten things up. I'll let you know how we do!

Over the weekend, we bought groceries at Hy-Vee, the farmer's market and Target.

Here's what we bought...

Weekend Recap {Sept. 19-21} - Housewarming Party!

Posted September 22, 2014 in weekend, Weekend Recap, housewarming and 9 more

As soon as I got out of bed this morning, the negative thoughts started racing through my head - I look so fat, I've gained weight, I'm breaking out and my face looks ugly, my hair looks terrible today, my makeup looks horrendous, I hate all my clothes, etc. As the morning went on, my mood worsened.

Have you ever had a day like that? I just couldn't push a positive thought through my brain! I didn't eat very well over the weekend, and didn't get in a single workout. I also didn't drink enough water, and didn't have a lot of time to relax. Let's just say I woke up on the wrong side of the bed today.

Then I read this quote, and it made me realize that this bad day just means I need take a step back, reevaluate my needs and take better care of myself.

"Setbacks are miracles in disguise. Always believe that things are working out in your favor." (Source)

I also reminded myself that my weekend was full of amazing quality time with friends and family. Something that is also much needed.

Here are details about my weekend...

I'm actually sore today from all of my workouts. I'm glad I made the time for fitness over the weekend. It always makes me feel so much better!

The Best Black Friday Deals

Posted November 26, 2014 in Black Friday, Thanksgiving, shopping and 12 more

Happy Thanksgiving!

I love this holiday because it's a great reminder to slow down and think about things we are grateful for. I have so much to be thankful for this year! The BF and I moved in together, my family is happy and healthy, my blog is better than ever, I'm halfway through my Institute for Integrative Nutrition classes, I feel healthy and happy and so much more!

The BF and I will be in Hastings at his grandma's house enjoying dinner with his family. While I'm not in love with most of the traditional Thanksgiving dishes (green bean casserole, mashed potatoes and gravy, etc.), I absolutely love the BF's family's sweet potato casserole. It's whipped sweet potatoes with a brown sugar nutty topping. Mmmm. That's what I'll be indulging in!

To prepare ourselves for the big food day, the BF and I plan to run the YMCA's Turkey Trot. Note the word "plan". Last year it was absolutely freezing, so we'll see if we get out there to brave the cold again this year.

Need some tips on staying healthy during this holiday?

Check out my 9 Tips To Help You Have a Healthy Thanksgiving, which was featured on Her View From Home.

OK, let's talk about shopping! I've always loved shopping on Black Friday!

Years ago, my mom, aunt, cousins and I would spend the evening of Thanksgiving pouring over the ads looking at all the deals. We would get up at 4 a.m. Friday to start our shopping expedition. We had so much fun laughing at the craziness of the day and getting energized with cups and cups of coffee.

The photo above was taken in 2010 after an epic Black Friday shopping trip with my mom, cousin Kristi and aunt Adel.

The Best Fitness Gifts for Valentine's Day

Valentine's Day is one of those love/hate holidays. If you're single, it can be a bit of a downer. If you're in a relationship and your partner isn't thoughtful or a good gift giver, it can be a let down.

I love all holidays because they're a reason to celebrate, and I love an excuse to buy gifts, pamper myself and drink champagne!

I am a believer in creating your own happiness and joy. So what if you're single on the day everyone else is celebrating love. Who cares if your partner won't think to bring you flowers. Love yourself! Gift yourself with something extra special.

I created this gift guide full of fitness apparel so you can update your fitness wardrobe! Giving your fitness clothes a little boost may help keep you motivated to workout. When you like the way you look, you're more likely to get out and move!

My weekend was laid back, relaxing and not super productive. I had a list of to-do's, but only crossed a few things off my list. I'm totally OK with it because I got to spend time with the BF and my fam. Spending time with people I love is so much better than being productive.

Get motivated to get your Om on!

Posted February 18, 2015 in yoga, shopping, yoga apparel and 1 more

I totally believe that when you look good, you feel better.

The philosophy still applies when you workout! When you're wearing something you like, something that you feel comfortable in and something that makes you feel fierce, you're more likely to get yourself to the gym, out for a run or to a fitness class.

Since I've been doing the #TakeTheLeap 30-Day Yoga Challenge (read my halfway recap here), I thought it would be fun to share some of my recent yoga shopping picks.

As you know, I'm always and forever into printed leggings, so there are a few options below. One thing that seems to be popular going into spring is strappy open back tanks. Very cute! I also included a few items to get you to yoga class while it's still chilly outside.

Happy shopping!

Grocery Haul {Feb. 22, 2015} + Weekly Meal Plan

Posted February 24, 2015 in meal planning, grocery haul, healthy cooking and 6 more

How do you find healthy recipe inspiration?

I find recipe inspiration in a few ways - I watch The Chew, I flip through my cookbooks, I read health magazines and I read health and fitness blogs. I keep track of the online recipes I want to try on my Pinterest boards.

Before the days of Pinterest, I would tear recipes out of magazines and put them in a 3-ring binder. I still have a few binders full of recipes! (I should probably go through those!) I still tear recipes out of magazines, but I'm not as good about organizing them.

I also keep a list on my phone of all of our favorite recipes. Whenever the BF and I try something new and we love it, it goes on the list. Whenever I'm struggling to figure out what to add to our weekly meal plan, I often go back to our favorites list.

I always try to include one or two new recipes each week. I love trying new recipes, and it helps keep things interesting! This week we tried a rice and mushroom soup that went right onto our favorites list!

Here's this week's grocery haul from HyVee and our meal plan for the week...

How to update your wardrobe for spring

Posted March 26, 2015 in spring, clothes, shopping and 5 more

As the weather has warmed up and I've started to pull out my spring clothes, I've realized that I need a wardrobe refresh.

My body has changed over the past few years and my tastes have changed, and I don't know how to dress myself anymore! Yes, I'm 31 years old and I can't dress myself.

I can't wait until summer because I can just live in maxi dresses, which require no effort. But I suppose I must dress myself during the transition to summer, so I'm making a plan of action. You can follow along with me if you feel like your wardrobe needs a little pick me up.

  1. Go through all of my clothes and get rid things that don't fit, that I don't like, that have holes or stains and that no longer fit my lifestyle and my personal style.
  2. Determine what my issues with my wardrobe are (I've listed some below).
  3. Make a list of staples that are missing from my wardrobe.
  4. Think about what I want to look like and how I want to feel in my clothes.

Spring Fitness Apparel Upgrade

Posted April 1, 2015 in fitness clothing, fitness, shopping and 5 more

Happy First Day of April!!

I love April because it really starts to feel like spring and my birthday is in exactly one month from today! Woo hoo! I LOVE birthdays.

I've totally had the itch to update my wardrobe since the weather started to warm up. I mentioned it last week, in my How to Update Your Wardrobe for Spring post. I haven't gone through my closet yet, but it's on my spring to do list!

In addition to updating my day-to-day wardrobe for spring, I also like to change things up with my workout wardrobe when the seasons change. Warmer weather means more outdoor workouts and wearing tank tops and shorts! It's time to put away the long leggings and cool weather workout gear!

Purchasing a few new pieces for your workout wardrobe can also keep you motivated or reenergize you to work toward your fitness goals! I've said it before, looking good on the outside makes you feel good on the inside. Even though you'll be covered in sweat, feeling good in what you're wearing to workout is important! When I like my workout clothes and feel good in them, I actually want to workout!

Today I'm sharing some of my spring workout picks.

Stitch Fix Review #1

Posted April 23, 2015 in Stitch Fix, fashion, self-confidence and 6 more

I received my first Stitch Fix box last week!!

I decided to join Stitch Fix because I need a wardrobe refresh. I wrote a blog post, How to Update Your Wardrobe For Spring, and realized that I needed to upgrade my closet.

As mentioned in that post, I have been getting bored with my casual weekend look (jeans, T-shirt, TOMS), I am in need of higher quality clothing, I need outfits rather than random pieces I don't know what to do with and I need jeans that fit (the curse of the narrow waist and thick thighs).

I also want my clothing to reflect who I am right now. I had lots of clothing from my 20's that just isn't me anymore or that doesn't fit well. I went through my closet and got rid of tons of stuff and started a list of staples to start purchasing. And I added in my recent Stitch Fix pieces!

Stitch Fix Review #2

Posted June 16, 2015 in Stitch Fix, fashion, clothing and 3 more

I got another Stitch Fix!! It's so exciting when this box arrives!

For this box, I asked my stylist for a few more fun summer tops and a maxi dress. I loved the two tops I kept from my last box, and wanted a few more unique tops for warmer weather. Check out my first Stitch Fix Review.

A little recap...

With Stitch Fix, you fill out a pretty extensive style survey, then a stylist handpicks some pieces of clothing based on your preferences. You can receive a 'fix' every 2-3 weeks, every month, every other month or every three months. You can even create a Pinterest board to give your stylist a better idea of what you're looking for. Check out my Style board on Pinterest.

Your stylist really looks at your Pinterest board too! My stylist sent me a note and mentioned some things that were on my board.

When you receive your box, you try everything on, send back the items you don't want and purchase the items you want to keep. You pay a $20 styling fee for each box, but that $20 is applied to anything you want to keep from that shipment. Easy peasy!

Here's what I got in my second Stitch Fix...

Happy National Yoga Month!

I started doing yoga regularly a couple of years ago, and have totally fallen in love. I try to make it to a class at least once a week. I also try to practice regularly in my living room.

Along with my love of yoga, I'm equally in love with yoga clothing. Hello, leggings! Most of my yoga clothing doubles as lounge wear or clothes I run errands in.

There are actually few places to buy cute yoga gear here in the middle of Nebraska. I actually get a lot of my yoga apparel and gear at Target. They have tons of yoga mats, blocks, straps, etc.

The leggings above are from Target!

To celebrate National Yoga Month, Target is offering 20% on select yoga apparel and gear! It's time to stock up!

Fall Activewear Wish List

I am the first to admit that I don't NEED to buy myself more activewear, but I always have a list of workout wear that I'm wishing for.

It just started to get cold here in Nebraska, so I'm craving the comfort of warm sweatshirts, jackets and sweatpants. The top two things on my wish list....a pair of joggers and a warm jacket that works for the gym and for weekends. The Lululemon jacket on my list is so amazing!!!

I'll be honest, I don't need any new workout leggings. But the new mountain yoga leggings by Reebok are amazing! (I recently counted my workout leggings...30. Yep.)

Today I'm sharing some of the things on my fall wish list. Maybe you'll get a little inspiration to upgrade your fall activewear. I always think looking good and wearing clothes that fit well help make you feel more confident. And if you feel confident in your workout clothes, you'll be more likely to get moving!

BLACK FRIDAY: The Best Sales for Activewear and Healthy Living

Posted November 25, 2015 in Black Friday, shopping, activewear and 9 more

*This post contains affiliate links. When you click and make a purchase, I earn a small commission. Thanks for supporting Sweet Success!

If you've been reading Sweet Success for awhile, you've probably realized that I love to shop.

Years ago (before Black Friday moved to Thanksgiving), my mom, aunt, cousins and I, would get up early the morning after Thanksgiving with our coffees in hand and wait outside Target for the doors to open. We would divide and conquer to get the items we wished for. Then we'd move on to the next store. It was more about spending time together, laughing at the absurdity of the day and having fun than the actual shopping.

As stores open earlier and earlier, I become less interested in being the first in line for Black Friday. Last year, my parents, the BF and I drove to Lincoln on Black Friday for some afternoon shopping. The BF and I didn't hit up Target until about 9 p.m. The year before, we all went to Omaha for afternoon Black Friday shopping. I still get my shopping fix, but I don't have to be out with the crazies.

I've also realized that you can get all the deals (and more) online! More online retailers are offering discounts on items the entire holiday weekend. Which is why it's the perfect time to pick up some items to help you reach your healthy living goals!

There are tons of companies having major sales on high quality activewear and healthy living items. So I've compiled a list of some of the best sales this week!

Happy Shopping!

Six Ways to Practice Self-Care on a Snow Day

Six-Ways-to-PracticeSelf-Careon-a-Snow-D

Today is a snow day!!

Winter Storm Kayla has hit Nebraska, and the city is shut down.

There will be no playing in the fluffy snow during this snow fall. There are nearly 50 mph winds, so it's not a picturesque snow storm.

So far, I have slept in, drank coffee, browsed Instagram and ate avocado toast topped with eggs, turmeric, pink Himilayan salt and red pepper flakes. I'm taking things really slow today! Since I have an unexpected day off from work, I'm going to use the snow day to care for myself a bit.

On my snow day agenda: yoga/Pilates, reading, catching up on magazines, an at-home pedicure, wine, eating healthy comfort foods and organizing my home office.

Today is the perfect day to take some time for yourself. If you've already devised a long to do list, set it aside for at least an hour and take some time to care for you!

Now that spring is finally here and the weather is warming up, I have the itch to refresh my wardrobe a bit.

Nothing drastic...I just wanted a few new pieces to give my closet a little renewal. So I scheduled a Fix!

Side note: Stitch Fix now has SHOES!!! I didn't ask for any this time around, but they have some pretty cute options.
